Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse Thoughts

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Shoot... there is a lot to this movie! It's a lot, and I feel like I gotta rewatch it once it's on streaming or something, cause they have something really special set up. The soundtrack is chilling, the characters are compelling, and the story is marvelous. Who could have ever thought an animated movie could be as spectacular as this. The Canon Event plotline is so interesting, because if Miles does save his dad, then how does that affect the entirety of the multiverse? I think Beyond the Spider-Verse is going to get crazy! My rating is 9.3/10.

The Flash Thoughts

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

This movie had me smiling the whole time. I know many people are complaining about the poor CGI in the movie, but that really didn't get in the way of the excitement this movie presented. Despite their awful actions, Ezra Miller actually kind of kills it in the role. They are super fun to watch on screen, and that one scene where he's running in circles without his powers actually had me cracking up. Just like the little squeaks in the floor as he ran were funny. I feel like the movie's end kind of gave a dissatisfying end to Michael Keaton's Batman and Sasha Calle's Supergirl. It sort of felt like they were just tossed to the side right before the cameo palooza part. I thought the cameo sequence was cool, as well as Wonder Woman's appearance in the movie. You see, this is how you correctly utilize Wonder Woman for a cameo in a DCEU movie. Not what you did in Shazam! 2. Honestly, that brief Justice League sequence made me sad we're losing this universe. This is the first time I wish that the DCEU could continue on, because seeing this shows that there was potential, it just wasn't used right. My rating is 8.4/10.

The Brave and the Bold Has Found its Director

The Flash director, Andy Muschietti, has signed on to work on the DCU movie, The Brave and the Bold. We now have two director confirmations for the DCU, as James Gunn is set to direct Superman: Legacy, and we now know this news as well.

New World Order to Brave New World

This month, Captain America 4 changed its subtitle from New World Order to Brave New World. This was expected due to the infamous backstory to the "New World Order" term.

Secret Invasion Thoughts

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

Episode 1 - Resurrection: Wow, well… rest in peace, Maria Hill. She’s been in the MCU for 11 years and they kill her off in the first episode. Man… I suppose that just really sets the stakes of this invasion, and that’ll give Nick Fury the motive to get back at the bad Skrulls. Going into the show, I thought Talos was going to become bad somehow, like he suddenly turned bad, but it looks like he’s against these rebellious Skrulls, which is good. I think a very interesting factor going into this series is how Fury isn’t several steps ahead like he used to be Pre-Blip. That makes sense, and that’s a clever storyline, as this mission is all the more difficult for that reason.

Episode 2 - Promises: I had no idea Fury was married- does he know she’s a Skrull? I am very skeptical about trusting Rhodey. The entire time I was watching he and Fury’s interaction I hadn’t thought of it as Rhodey and Fury but rather a Skrull and Fury. I know it’s possible he may not be a Skrull, but for whatever I couldn’t break that mindset. This show is headed in an interesting direction, and I’m excited for next week.

Other: There has been a controversy regarding the show’s intro. Reportedly, the intro for Secret Invasion is made by A.I. This is controversial for several reasons, one being how it’s sort of insensitive to the whole writer’s strike movement, and how the entire reason for it is Hollywood’s use of A.I. in productions. Many people say it’s should have been easy to hire animators for the intro, but others argue that the use of A.I. for the intro kind of plays into the show’s idea of impostors taking over, which sort of uses the comparison of A.I. to Skrulls.

Venom 3 Release Update

An update for Venom 3 lets us know that Sony is set for an October 2024 release date. The exact day is unknown, but that seems to be the plan. Filming began recently and set video footage showed Eddie Brock back in the clothes he was wearing in the Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home post credit scenes.

Another Round of MCU Delays

You may have already seen my Disney Delays Update blog, but here is a recap of all the recent Marvel delays and move-arounds:

Deadpool 3 (November 8, 2024) → (May 3, 2024)

Captain America: Brave New World (May 3, 2024) → (July 26, 2024)

Thunderbolts (July 26, 2024) → (December 20, 2024)

Blade (September 6, 2024) → (February 14, 2025)

Fantastic Four (February 14, 2025) → (May 2, 2025)

Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 2, 2025) → (May 1, 2026)

Avengers: Secret Wars (May 1, 2026) → (May 7, 2027)

Tenoch Huerta: Jonathan Majors 2.0?

Tenoch Huerta has recently pinned with assault allegations. These allegations have led him to step away from a Netflix film, and his future as an actor and as Namor seem to be in trouble. It makes no sense to me how so many of these superhero actors are just going crazy. There was Ezra Miller, Jonathan Majors, and now what seems to be Tenoch Huerta. Of course, we are still yet to here confirmation regarding Majors' accusations, as well as Huerta's.

The Incredible Hulk Smashes onto Disney+

The Incredible Hulk landed onto Disney+ after Disney got the rights of Namor and Hulk back from Universal. The film began streaming on June 16, which leaves us only missing Far From Home, No Way Home, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 for the MCU.

Kraven the Hunter Trailer Reaction

It's not looking amazing. I'm curious to see Rhino's design, but Kraven's backstory looks real dumb. He gets powers... from a drop of lion's blood? Nah, not looking good. I think the excessive gore in the trailer is being used in place of the movie's struggling plotline so that people stay invested in the movie. I'm wondering if this movie will be strike two for Sony's Spider-Man Universe, or if we'll all be pleasantly surprised. (I like the Venom films, so this franchise isn’t all bad, but I really don’t think this one is going to do well).

Jonathan Majors Update

Reports are stating that Majors’ next trial date is set for August 3. In the meantime, Jonathan Majors has been spotted in public frequently with Meagan Good, and it appears they’re dating. Good played Superhero Darla in the Shazam! movies, and despite Majors’ allegations, they have been seen on several dates, and they’ve been seen holding hands as well.

Recent news states that Majors could very possibly not be in the wrong. His most recent trial date was June 20 (despite initial reports stating it would be June 13). He allegedly filed a domestic violence complaint about his ex-girlfriend who was with him the night of his arrest. This move gives hope regarding his possible innocence, as this may mean his ex-girlfriend is in the wrong. I really hope this is true, because I love Jonathan Majors’ Kang, and if we can get confirmation that he is innocent, I will be so glad.

Captain America: Brave New World actor, Anthony Mackie was asked about Majors, and he responded by calling back to the saying “innocent until proven guilty.”

An Unfortunate Update for Beyond the Spider-Verse

Despite Across the Spider-Verse's undeniable success, things were very difficult behind the scenes. Many of the animators were being overworked, and about 100 of them have dropped out of working on Beyond the Spider-Verse. Although many thought Across the Spider-Verse was being made alongside Beyond the Spider-Verse, that is not true. To my surprise, Beyond the Spider-Verse hasn't even done any voice recording yet. It is very unlikely the movie will be finished by its current March 29, 2024 release date.

El Muerto is Looking Quite Dead...

This segment comes with two pieces of news. Both are bad news:

1 - The El Muerto movie was initially scheduled for January 12, 2024, which seemed unrealistic since the movie hadn't even started filming, so to find out that the movie has been taken off of Sony's release schedule makes sense. El Muerto no longer has a release date- but that is not all.

2 - Bad Bunny was set to play the mediocre Spider-Man villain, but he has now stepped down from the role. This is due to his schedule as a singer, which conflicts with the movie's production. So what was a Bad Bunny movie set for January 12, 2024, is now an indefinitely delayed movie without a lead actor. Welp... things ain't lookin so good for this movie.

I don’t believe the movie is canceled, but I think for whatever reason people are coming to that conclusion, however it is not confirmed. I personally don’t think they’re going to cancel the movie cause Sony is just releasing whatever these days… like Morbius.

A Confusing Deadpool 3 Detail

It seems Ben Affleck has been found on the set of Deadpool 3, which has led people to think he could be reprising his role as Daredevil from the 2003 flop. I'm not quite sure what to think about this... like, I'm not sure if it’s necessary. I mean if they can pull it off, then I guess it's okay, but I don't see why they feel they'd need to add people outside of the X-Men. I feel like X-Men callbacks are reasonable since Wolverine is returning, but there have been rumors of the cast of the original Fantastic Four movies returning for Deadpool 3, as well as having several multiversal versions of both Wolverine and Deadpool... it just seems like a lot, and I don’t want it to become too much.

Unfortunate San Diego Comic Con 2023 News...

Marvel's presence at San Diego Comic Con last year was so memorable. When they broke down several series and movies releasing within the Multiverse Saga. The presentation was given at Hall H, and it provided clarity for the MCU's direction up to 2025. However, since then, many of the shows announced were indefinitely delayed, therefore leaving us with no idea as to when they'll release, and many movies have been delayed. Once again, us Marvel fans need clarity for the future of the MCU, with there being so much uncertainty. But, we have learned that Marvel has decided not to host a panel at Hall H, meaning their appearance won't be as grand as it was last year. This is unfortunate, but this is likely due to the recent writer's strike, which has halted several big name productions. This opening for Hall H could be an opportunity for DC to shine. There is still a lot unknown about James Gunn's DCU, and hosting a Hall H panel this year would be a smart move for the brand. We'll just have to wait for what's revealed this year. San Diego Comic Con starts on Thursday, July 20, and lasts through Sunday, July 23.

Superman: Legacy Casting

This month, we have found out who is playing both Superman and Lois in the 2025 James Gunn film, Superman: Legacy. We now know that David Corenswet will be playing Clark Kent/Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan will be playing Lois Lane. This is super exciting news. We also know there are three contenders for the role of Lex Luthor. These being Nicholas Hoult, Bill Skarsgard, and Alexander Skarsgard. I think I'd be fine with either Nicholas Hoult or Bill Skarsgard. But that's all the casting news for now, which I think is super exciting.

Thank You!

Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this month's CQMB. Be sure to stay tuned for the next CQMB which will release on the first of August.

Interesting take! I feel like it’s so hard to compare Across the Spider-Verse and No Way Home just since they did such different things with the character.

I absolutely loved the second Spider-Verse, Secret Invasion was better than I expected but by no means was my favorite. Great Blog as always!
