All 5-Letter Words by Letter (Quiz Series)

⚠️ Warning: This blog post may contain spoilers!

“All 5-Letter Words by Letter” is a 26-quiz series in which the quiz taker has to name as many 5-letter words as possible starting with a certain letter, and every letter A-Z has its own quiz. I have used the TWL06 dictionary via bestwordlist.com for this series. You can find the series here.

Where it all Started

Back in January, I decided to redo my existing series “All 4-Letter Words by Letter”, that has already existed for a couple years, since the original source I used was flawed, and to solve the controversy of “offensive” words, by including ALL words, and censoring words I think are offensive/vulgar, such as slurs, curse words, or anything sexual.

Birth of the Sequel

In early February, after finishing redoing all the 4-letter word quizzes, I decided to make a sequel, since the 4-letter words series was successful and doing a 5-letter word series would be helpful with Wordle. I submitted the first quiz of the series “All 5-Letter Words Starting with “A””, on February 13th. I submitted one quiz every day at 11 AM ET until Z’s submission on March 10th and thus completing the series.

Fun Stats about the Series!

Data taken on March 14.

1. There are 8,938 total 5-letter words, or “answers” in the entire series.

2. The average quiz has 344 answers.

3. The quiz with the most answers is S, with 1,084.

4. The quiz with the fewest answers is X, with only 13, followed by Q and Z, with 56 each.

5. The quiz with the highest average, or the “easiest” quiz, is Q, with an average score of 46.4%. W is not too far behind with 45.2%.

6. Similarly, the quiz with the lowest average, or the “hardest” quiz, is K, with an average score of only 17.7%.

7. The entire series has 916 takes.

8. The average quiz has 35 takes.

9. The most taken quiz is W, with 45 takes, while the least taken quiz is X, with only 20.

10. Lastly, the most guessed answer on the D quiz is a censored word! I mean, really, guys?

“Common” Words that (Almost) Everybody Forgot

These “common” words were guessed up to 13% of the time, such as everyday words or words that I personally  was surprised to find so low. Data taken on March 11.

1. Adult (12%) I’m guessing only kids are taking these quizzes, haha.

2. Agony (12%) The agony…

3. Badly (13%) How is this word forgotten so badly?

4. Bayou (13%)

5. Biome (13%)

6. Blurb (9%) Some of you JetPunkers have likely came across this word before.

7. Betas (4%) Literally just the plural of the second letter of the Greek alphabet.

8. Bahts (0%) This really surprised me, as this is the currency of Thailand, and we are on a geography-based website, and yet no one got it?!?

9. Boink (0%)

10. Canal (13%)

11. Civil (13%)

12. Colon (13%) :

13. Copay (10%)

14. Cacti (7%) Yes, that’s the plural for cactus.

15. Duchy (10%) Another geography/history related word.

16. Futon (4%) I don’t know if it’s just me, but I know a futon as a common piece of furniture, much like a couch. I was surprised to see this word so low.

17. Gator (13%) *sad gator noises*

18. Gulag (6%) Worth forgetting though.

19. Homie (7%) All the homies also forgot about this one.

20. Jatos (3%) Not a common word, just a huge disappointment.

21. Lying (9%) Nope, I’m not lying.

22. Nazis (13%) Also worth forgetting.

23. Pooed (13%) I honestly thought people were dirtier…

24. Sorta (13%) I found this sorta surprising, but the “S” quiz was also sorta long, soooo…

25. Spicy (13%)

26. Swirl (13%) I assume that most people run out of time or panic before they get to the SW’s.

27. Swiss (10%) I understand that some people might think that swiss is solely a proper noun.

28. Sedan (6%) One cut me off this morning!

29. Scuba (6%)

30. Sixth (6%) Not the sixth but the seventh “S” word on this list.

31. Suing (6%)

32. Sigma (3%) Another Greek letter.

33. Vocab (9%) Most of the quiz-takers have a great vocab, but forget the word “vocab” itself.

34. Zetas (13%) Yet another Greek letter.

Should I Continue?

I know I should be making my own decisions for myself, but I want to hear an output from the JetPunk community, especially when, unlike its prequel 4-Letter Words, the 5-Letter Words Series didn’t receive much feedback. I have been considering following up the series by creating All 6-Letter Words by Letter, but have been hesitant, since most of the quizzes in the 5-Letter series are already very long, we’re talking hundreds of answers, and if a 6-Letter series was made, its quizzes would, on average, be twice as long. I would love to create a 6-Letter series, I just don’t know if me making it would be going too far… or maybe it would just be a brand new, more challenging series.

The Wrap-Up

This is my first ever blog on JetPunk, so I hope this turned out okay. As a Top 30 Quizmaker I had been very biased toward making quizzes, just because of the “takes”, but have now decided to make blogs, just for fun. Thanks for reading by blog post and I hope you enjoyed (or will enjoy) my quiz series.

Great first blog! I really like the "Common" Words that (Almost) Everybody Forgot, it is funny.

Just to note, even if the 6-letter words quizzes are even twice as long as the 5-letter words quizzes, it shouldn't take more time to create, since you can easily do that by copying the quizzes on a table and importing it on JetPunk.

Thanks baptiste! However though I’m not too worried about how long it would take me to make such a quiz — I’m more worried about some people don’t like huge quizzes as it takes out time (at most an hour) from their daily lives. But I suppose that time wasted is not time wasted if you had fun!

I loved the 5 letter quizzes. I took them untimed and worked on them for a few minutes at a time, sometimes over weeks. I'd love to see 6 letter quizzes. Maybe add second letter hints, or even provide the first 3 letters for each answer.

Enjoyed reading about the series! I’ll have to give the quizzes a try when I get the chance.
