People had every reason to expect the Spanish Inquisition. When arriving in a city, they would announce themselves and give heretics a few weeks to confess without severe punishment.

British sailors once received a daily ration of half an imperial pint of rum, the equivalent of two bottles of wine. Sadly for sailors, the ration was halved in 1823 and halved again in 1850. The rum ration was completely eliminated in 1970.

During WWI, French soldiers were issued a wine ration called a pinard. At its highest level, it could amount to one bottle of wine per day.

Cow tipping is a purported activity where a person topples a cow that is sleeping standing up. It is considered a myth. For one, cows generally sleep lying down. Secondly, the force required to tip a cow would require at least four people.
Yes, 'half an imperial pint' is equal to 'half an IMPERIAL pint'. An imperial pint is 20 ounces, so half is 10 ounces. A bottle of wine is 750ml, which is about 25.36 ounces, so 2 bottles is over 50 ounces. Apparently the ration of rum was about 54.6% ABV, so 10 ounces would be about 5.46 ounces of alcohol. 2 bottles of wine (at 12.5% ABV) would be about 6 ounces of alcohol. #218 would be better worded as "the alcohol equivalent of 2 bottles of wine"
By my reckoning (similar to stevediverse's above, but done in metric), half a pint of navy rum had 155ml of alcohol. Two bottles of 10% wine (weak, I know) is 150ml of alcohol.
Worth pointing out that the 1823-50 measure was over two servings, so the 1850-1970 change was simply dropping the evening ration and having just one serving (at 11am!). When I was a student, the clubs had quad-vod-and-coke as a drink to get you hammered quickly, with 100ml of vodka in it. The naval tot post-1850 had the same amount of alcohol as that - about 40ml of pure alcohol.
The Canucks kept the tot that little bit longer than the motherland, getting rid in '72, and the Kiwi navy lasted until 1990 before stopping the daily tot. The Aussies' drunkenness meant they had to stop in 1921. The US Navy (which used Whiskey instead of rum) stopped in 1862.

Half a pint is certainly not equivalent to 2 bottles of wine in volume
