Wow, already some of these are starting to fade into obscurity. I still got them all, but it took a good deal more head scratching than it would have a couple years back.
I'm old enough that I recognized it as a "where's the beef?" reference, but I'm young enough that I don't actually remember the commercial, just references to it, so I didn't know whose commercial it was.
I think the Mean Joe Green one is probably the oldest (early 80s), followed by Where's the Beef (mid-80s), and after that Energizer or Grey Poupon (very early 90s). The Pace Picante sauce one has been around for a while, too (mid-late 90s, I think).
A few of these I've never seen before probably because I've been living outside of the United States for most of the last 6 years, and before that never watched much TV anyway.. still got 16 tho. Some of these are about 30 years old.
Yeah, "HeadOn; apply directly to the forehead! HeadOn; apply directly to the forehead! HeadOn; apply directly to the forehead!" The commercial gave me a headache.
I think everyone who saw that stupid commercial remembers it. I never did figure out what the stupid product actually WAS, just that you were supposed to "apply directly to the forehead." I suspect they were trying to give people a headache so that you'd buy it to relieve the pain.
The first time I saw that commercial I really expected the Energizer bunny to bust through the screen because it HAD to be a fake product and yet, he never came.
Perfect description of those Samsung commercials. They were such downers because they made it seem like in order to have the phone you had to have sad music in the background and make belittling comments about other people based on their slightly less cool phones. It made you really not want the phone so you could avoid being like those people. Also, the E-Trade baby was creepy.
If you are influenced that much by a TV ad that you think you will be like those people if you have a certain brand of phone, turn the TV off and start thinking for yourself.
Yes, two brands. But outside of the US, Duracell uses the bunny mascot. It seems odd, but true. You can google "Duracell Bunny" and see the court fight articles.
