There's an oddly interesting dispute over whether that is in fact the world's largest ball of twine. See https://99percentinvisible.org/episode/goodness-gracious-great-balls-of-twine/
American states may enjoy greater autonomy but Auvergne has a significance that goes back to antiquity. It's where Vercingetorix, the leader of the Gallic tribes come from, and where Caesar won the most important battle to conquer Gaul. Noble families from the region were involved in many important dynasties, such as Bourbon and Medici. There are countless castles, cathedrals and other buildings that are historically and culturally significant. Vichy is in Auvergne. If you find any state, or any country for that matter, boring as a whole you're just a boring person imo. There's history, beauty, people to know, and things to do wherever you go.
Sadly, even though that was true, it was later discovered that the metrics they used are so incredibly skewed that even Bolivia would end up being flatter than a pancake if they measured it
But I am glad Ike is now accepted for Eisenhower.
