One small gripe though. I kept getting the U.S. capital wrong and couldn't figure out why. Finally, I discovered I had to add "DC" to "Washington." The capital city is actually just "Washington." The "DC" stands for "District of Columbia" which is the territory the city of Washington is located in. Adding DC just distinguishes it from Washington State.
The District of Columbia actually has its own government separate from that of the city of Washington.
And I still have no idea why people thought naming the new state "Washington" back in 1889 was a good idea. It has been a source of confusion ever since.
