Flags of the Americas (Very Hard)

I love the test having all the flags for sovereign states as well as dependencies and other inhabited territories.

The problem is that the spelling mistakes and abbreviations generally accepted by JetPunk quizzes are not accepted here. Trinidad and Tobago is one exception. Trinidad is accepted without Togago. But St Kitts and Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Pierre and Miquelon, etc., all require both islands' names, which is fine if you are consistent and make a note of it in the instructions.

Then there is Saint-Barthelemy, which is accepted on other JetPunk quizzes by its more commonly known name of St Barts.

And if you are using dependencies of the U.S. and U.K. in the quiz, why not the Federal Dependencies of Venezuela? It does have its own flag, which is green, white, and blue, with a red fish in the middle.

Just some thoughts from a Pan-American geographer

I think you misunderstood what I was saying about Trinidad and Tobago. They should be considered together as one answer because they are one country. I was stating that in your quiz, you accepted the name “Trinidad” without “Tobago” as a correct answer, which is consistent with other JetPunk quizzes. However, for the other two-name countries, you required both names in order to be accepted as correct. This is not consistent with other JetPunk quizzes. For example, other quizzes accept “St Kitts” without “Nevis” and “St Pierre” without “Miquelon.”

I was just suggesting that for the sake of consistency, if you require both names to be accepted as correct, you should make a note of it in the directions and require “Trinidad and Tobago” to be correct. I wasn’t saying Trinidad and Tobago should be counted as separate answers.

It can be difficult to determine where to draw the line when listing dependencies and other territories of the Americas. It comes down to how you interpret the political statuses of territories, but common convention also plays a role. For example, French Guiana is a fully integrated part of France, yet it is usually included in lists of dependencies. Conversely, San Andres and Providencia (Colombia) and the Federal Dependencies of Venezuela are also both fully integrated parts of their respective countries, but they typically aren’t included in such lists. So, honestly, the best choice would probably be to leave those two out. But to be consistent with common convention, you should probably keep French Guiana in your quiz.

And no, they don’t have a capital. They are governed directly by the Federal Government.

As for other countries or territories, no, I think you’re good with what you have. It’s consistent with common convention.
