The Vatican is nót a country it is the Holy Seat (literal meaning of Holy See, not a typo) which refers to the pope and the government of the roman church. (Or in simplified terms so kids can get it, The Vatican is the head of the church) So it is a religious entity, not a geographical one. The headquarters of the Holy See (The Vatican) is in Vatican City which is considered a country
I agree, Vatican City is the full name but in most cases, it would be - and should be included in this list as the shortened and more commonly used term is "The Vatican" or "Vatican". Vatican/Vatican City should be added to this list.
Using that logic, The United Kingdom should also be added to this list because there are people (many?) who refer to it as Great Britain, or just Britain. And, yes, I know that Great Britain is the name of the island and not the name of a/the country but that doesn't stop Great Britain or Britain from being commonly used to refer to the country. In fact, the ISO code for the United Kingdom is "GB".
Well...once you think of one, you are gonna do the others. I forgot afghanistan though... maybe because i knew it before knowing the other stans that it is not grouped with them in my head.
I was trying to think of what the last one I hadn't listed was for a solid minute, had the realization at 3s left, managed to get Spain (Yes, I forgot Spain existed, but in fairness, so do all our history textbooks when we talk about WWII) typed with less than a second left.
So there was not a space above or below Sudan so I thought South Sudan must have been left off. Guess I need to do some more "letters of the alphabet" quizzes.
Yes, but many countries have an official long-form name, and an official short-form name. These quizzes generally go by the standard short-form names, if there is one, because no one wants to deal with people complaining about the "Countries Starting with 'B'" quiz including (The Bolivarian Republic of) Venezuela but excluding (The Kingdom of) Belgium.
Wow. I haven't been this bad at a country quiz in a long time! Great idea! We're so used to grouping them by first letter that grouping them by last is a real challenge!
Well..... I was thinking why it didn't take sweeden (and yes i wrote sweeden) but then i realized in the last 6 seconds that it is written as sweden not "sweeden". I forgot about spain because spain is always for me españa.
Moved round geographically, as I always do. Got to one of the Stan's and thought nope, skip the whole bunch completely... I missed 7 - Your guess as to which!
good quiz
Also possible answer Dominican Republic (kind of).
It should be on this list.
