Perhaps "least formal education" would be a better category than "least educated". Lincoln had very little formal education but he was an inveterate reader. Even when out splitting rails as a young man, he always had reading matter with him. Throughout his life, he was desperate to improve his mind and educate himself. By the time he became president it seems inappropriate to describe him as "uneducated".
