Since Pashto is the official language of Afghanistan maybe you can just say primary language of Afghanistan - at least as far as I know Pashto isn't just Kabul-related
It's arguable that Pashto is the main language of Afghanistan, but if it is it's only by a narrow margin. It's definitely the main language of Kabul, though. I reckon the clue's a good 'un.
Oh, so it was meant to be "Kabul". For me, i think there was a glitch or something. The hint read: "Official language of K". I had no idea it was meant to be Kabul. Also, I think Dari is more suitable.
Can you accept Titicaca for the lake question, as it is a small mountain lake. I know you were looking for the term, but this meets the criteria of the question.
In the previous quiz (#2) I had the clue "Lava-spewing mountain" for the V clue. The answer was 'volcano', but there were calls to add "Vesuvius". I know this kind of request is technically not incorrect, but if I wanted Vesuvius there would be something more specific in the clue to warrant that. Similarly for this one - if a specific lake like Titicaca, or Tahoe were the answer, the clue would require something more specific to warrant that answer, like "Large South American lake" etc, or "Lake near Reno". When you see a generalized clue, you can count on a generalized answer.
Smoke is not problematic of itself as it rises and disperses. Mixing with foggy atmospheric conditions means it is denser than the air and stays low suffocating the populace. or to put it another way, it may be smokey all the time in Beijing but when it is also foggy, and smog forms, there's a problem.
firstly could you accept xenophobic for xenophobia, secondly i might be wrong but i thought tarn was used instead of corrie lake in the uk, as opposed to a general word for it. While this doesn't make the clue wrong it seems a bit harsh for anybody outside of the uk.
Just wondering where we stand on the whole Ivory/Ivoire matter. I think I remember it being discussed somewhere else, but you might consider accepting the original French word here. (Although the step from French to English isn't a hard one to take, especially on an English website. I did, however, lose a whole second deleting the wrong answer and writing to one you were looking for instead. It's the small things...)
I am so glad there was a question about tarns! I only got 20/26 but I got that one. It is a great thing to know, but nobody seems to have heard of them...
Edit: I live in B.C. (Western Canada) and use the word a lot, obviously it's not that useful in certain places.
It's a nitpick but I don't like the grammar of this questions; the K should be in brackets or something.
This is really, really hard. I mean, most is easy but some is hard.
Got stuck on that but after that I knew everything except for tarn and Rhodesia... Southern or northern
Saved you a trip to the other side of the world :)
