Had fun guessing a few (eg Kanada, Sud Afrika and of course Deutschland) but quickly gave up. Interested to know what the accepted answer is for Cote D'ivore as I believe most countries accept the convention that it is not translated.

in German its the direct translation: Côte = Küste, D'ivore = Elfenbein - so in German its Elfenbeinküste

Yeah, I had no idea what I was doing. Just guessed English names and tried replacing the letter C with the letter K in some places. Final score 86

Good idea. ;) Some of yours almost work like this, but it is ArgentinIEN, so we add an i in there. Some are because of the way we use/pronounce letters oder letter combinations. So we have MoSambiK, but it sounds almost the same as the english version. We do use almost no Z, but S instead. QUE is not common, but instead K. Almost all C will also become a K (Kamerun, Kambodscha). DI, DJ, ... gets DSCH (DSCHIbuti) --> looks horrible, by the way. Im used to use the english names of the countries. Therefore, I had to think about some names twice, despite I'm german. ;) But there are also some countries, that sound completely different: Belarus - Weisrussland Cote d'Ivoire - Elfenbeinküste Timor-Leste - Ost-Timor (All of these have the same meaning, but the german words are different than the english/french/whatever language...) --> just some trivia ;)

As a german speaker you should consider allowing Dom Rep for Dominikanische Republik and VAE for Vereinigte Arabische Emirate. These are widely known and used abbreviation. Also, you should call it Taiwan, nobody ever uses Republik China.

I added Dom Rep, and changed Republik China to Taiwan. VAE already worked. Thanks!

This was great fun! Is it possible to look up the countries one missed in the quizz in the map when one gives up? Maybe by click on the country's name and then highlight in the map? Of some countries I don't know where they are supposed to be :-)

Do you think it would be possible to have the countries in an alphabetical order in German, too? There still in their English order, for example Österreich is at the same place Austria could be found. It would be easier to find missing countries that way.

I'd like to have UK instead of Großbritannien as the term Großbritannien is not entirely correct. If you said Großbritannien you'd just speak of the island which "conatins" England, Wales and Scotland, but not Northern Ireland. I got stuck there for a while, and German is my mother tongue

Das ist totaler Blödsinn! UK steht für United Kingdom - also zwei englische Worte.

Nice one. But there's still two little bugs still in there: The spelling of Weißrussland with ß, as it's correctly written in Germany and Austria, should be allowed. Weissrussland with ss is (only) correct in Switzerland. And Tschechische Republik should be accepted next to Tschechien, as it's the official name.
