What About Inactive Users?
From time to time we remove users who haven't visited the site in over a year, unless they have created quizzes. So there are some inactive users, but not too many.
Do People Cheat?
Probably, but they're really only cheating themselves.

Sorry for the long wait, but the user with the highest total level (130 as of Feb 2022) is kimad. They are most likely from Spain as they have commented on my Spanish quizzes several times.

Level 51

Kimad is not only the user with the highest total level, they have reached the maximum possible level in every single featured language. They have just under 90,000 points, have completed every single word search, found over 7,800 words in those searches, earned every single badge, made quizzes that have been taken almost 60,000 times, become one of the top 600 quiz makers, yet somehow not posted any live blogs or charts.

Whoever it is on 128, they must have 73,000+. The current maximum is 73020 across all languages so they have missed no more than 20 points. Amazing!

German just hit Level 56. It has exactly 1,100 quizzes, for 5,500 points, which is the absolute bare minimum for Level 56. 10 people already have it. I'll memorize some fairly useless quiz trivia to retain some knowledge and learn something, but there are always going to be quizzes where it's just of zero interest to rent my synapses for any length of time.

Well, for example, I am level 91 in English but lvl 93 overall. In this thread I show up as lvl 91.
+2
Level 118

I think it's harder to get far in one language than to get some way in multiple languages, so the single language score seems to be a better measure.
+2
Level 114
Jan 8, 2022
Ahh, but incremental levels can only be reached above level 91 via points ... not by adding levels in each language. So level 91 in English (~36,600 pts) + lvl 36 in French (~1500 pts) just adds up to level 93 (i.e. based on ~ 38,100 points)
+5
Level 69
Jan 9, 2022
It had to be done this way, as otherwise the total level can be misrepresented.for example getting to level 10 in 8 languages is easy to do, but level 80 doesn't seem fair to give, compared to the effort it takes to get to 80 in a single language.
+4
Level 114
Jan 9, 2022
We're saying the same thing. It's calculated on cumulative points (and every new level above 60 or so requires 1000 pts), not by adding levels. For example, if someone is level 91 in English (top level) and top in French (level 60 ish I think) they wouldn't be level 151 ... they'd be level 97, or something like that. So this makes whoever the person is at level 120 overall unimaginably impressive. I'd just like to see who those people are.

I have now changed the page's language to "total", meaning the levels shown in comments and in the navigation are the total level.

Well that's a coincidence that I look at this page two days after a comment about me. A month or so ago I took an unfeatutured quiz by a user, TWalker (https://www.jetpunk.com/users/twalker), who is 1 level ahead of me and left him friendly competitive congratulations.

I can get through German, French, and Spanish quizzes easily unless they're soccer or pop culture specific, or very native oriented. Like anyone who can understand German and English, Dutch falls into place well enough to understand it, yet make overconfident errors.

Through work I've picked up enough Italian and Portuguese to trudge through general quizzes and type several stabs at how I think words should be formed.

....and then there's Polish and Finnish. There are an enormous number of quizzes in those languages and I've pretty much stuck to repetitive geographical names just to learn a little of the languages' structures, but I'm really winging it.

+4
Level 116
Jan 18, 2022
Due to the sliding scale of points to levels, it might look like I'm getting somewhere in some of those languages, but Level 25 in Polish only equates to 500 points, which as I say is repetitive memory and wild guesses, answers that by chance mirror English or German, etc.

It's just kind of a challenging way of retaking flag quizzes, capitals, etc. and learning a little tiny bit as I go.

So far the coolest thing I've learned from foreign quizzes is that the Marshall Islands in Polish are Wyspy Marshalla.

Sounds delicious.

My approach is pretty similar to yours. My strongest languages are English, Spanish and Italian (which I started with basic knowledge+winging it from Spanish). Then I branched into Portuguese and French based on my knowledge in the aforementioned three languages, and later to Dutch and German (mostly based on English). In those four languages I’m in pre-250 levels.

With Polish I manage to make some progress, mostly with the map quizzes, and lastly with Finnish I’m still in the 10-point levels sine I find the language too foreign to even wing it succesfully.

Reminds me of Candy Floss :)

Also great work on 108! There's plenty of "Map Quiz" format quizzes which are usually easy in non-english cause you can match up words to what you think they might mean in English, e.g. Hiszpania in Polish meaning Spain

I've got to 100 on the strength of three languages - English, Spanish and German.

If I were to try any other languages it would just corrupt what I already know. That's probably my limit.
