It isn't in the "countries by sex ration" data sets that I found. But having researched the demographics of vatican city, I'll put in an estimation now, cheers

Shouldn't it be near 100? Considering most if not all of the Vatican citizens are male.

Demographic data usually mean inhabitants, not citizens.

These figures are definitely going by residents, not citizens. The UAE has fewer than 2 million citizens.

"...in March 2011, there were 'only 32 female citizens' residing in the 'smallest state in the world' (out of the 572 citizens issued with Vatican passports)..."

I don't think citizens are what are being counted for the gulf states, which have a lot of male temporary workers.

Except for Vatican all muslim countries. That must be a pain since you are allowed there to mary multiple women. That would mean lots of men keep unmarried simply because of the fact that there are no single women left :')

For some of these countries, it's less to do with them being muslim and more about workers. Countries like Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have a lot of foreign workers, and most of them are men.

I think you need to look closer. Palau, Bhutan, Nigeria, China and India are not majority Muslim nations.

It's not so much about Muslim as it is the countries that treat women as inferior. That's how I guessed all of the "Extra Men" column.

Extra Men countries such as India, Pakistan, China etc. haven't got any special way of having male children. The excess of men is equal to the loss of women, or more accurately girls. This is a very sad statistic and is one of the worlds great shames.

This list made me sad. I just had to think of all the countries that have the worst treatment of women, or value men significantly over women and I got almost all besides Bhutan and Palau.

That's a big part. It also has to do with inadequate health services for women. In the Gulf States it might also have to do with large pools of mostly male laborers imported from other countries, often without their families. Consider that there are only 1.7 million Emirati citizens living in the UAE, for example, yet the number of "extra" men there estimated on the quiz is 3.8 million.
