The “Real Countries” according to Chinese

Each of the following nations contain the 国 (guó, meaning "country") character in the mainland Mandarin Chinese version of their names. Based on their pinyin name and the English meaning, can you guess which ones they are?
Only countries whose official "long" Chinese names are able to be shortened to two characters (the second of which is 国) are considered.
Chinese translation of proper nouns is based on a combination of both sound and meaning, thus the helpfulness of the English meanings will vary.
