Area: (19th)
Symbolism: Andromeda, the chained woman from Greek mythology, wife of Perseus
2. Antlia
Area: (62nd)
Symbolism: The air pump, from the Greek word αντλία
3. Apus
Area: (67th)
Symbolism: The bird of paradise, from the ancient Greek word "apus" which means "without feet". People wrongly believed that the bird-of-paradise didn't have feet
4. Aquarius
Area: (10th)
Symbolism: The water-bearer, one of the zodiac constellations
5. Aquila
Area: (22nd)
Symbolism: The eagle carrying Antinous, an obsolete constellation
6. Ara
Area: (63rd)
Symbolism: The altar where the Gods formed an alliance before defeating the Titans
7. Aries
Area: (39th)
Symbolism: The ram which rescued Phrixus and Helle
8. Auriga
Area: (21st)
Symbolism: The charioteer, possibly also Ericththonius of Athens
9. Bootes
Area: (13th)
Symbolism: The herdsman carrying his hunting dogs (Canes Venatici)
10. Caelum
Area: (81st)
Symbolism: The chisel
11. Camelopardalis
Area: (18th)
Symbolism: The giraffe, from the Greek word καμηλοπάρδαλη, which is composed of the words κάμηλος (kamelos) "camel and πάρδαλις (pardalis) "spotted, because it has a long neck like a camel and spots.
12. Cancer
Area: (31st)
Symbolism: The crab, one of the zodiac constellations. In Greek mythology Cancer is a crab that appeared while Heracles fought Hydra
13. Canes Venatici
Area: (38th)
Symbolism: The hunting dogs of Bootes
14. Canis Major
Area: (43rd)
Symbolism: The greater dog, it's biggest star is Sirius, which appears in the Sirius Satellite Radio logo, which is the eye of the greater dog, Canis Major. In Greek mythology it is symbolised as the hunter dog Laelaps.
15. Canis Minor
Area: (71st)
Symbolism: The lesser dog who was connected to the Teumessian Fox, a beast turned into stone.
16. Capricornus (pictured in the thumbnail in a card from Urania's Mirror, 1825)
Area: (40th)
Symbolism: The seagoat. In Greek mythology it is identified with Amalthea, the goat that suckled Zeus after his mother Rhea

Area: (34th)
Symbolism: The keel
18. Cassiopeia
Area: (25th)
Symbolism: Named after the queen of Aethiopia (not to be confused with modern-day Ethiopia, that's another story), she was the wife of Cepehus, and mother of Andromeda. Poseidon punished her by placing her in the sky after saying that Andromeda was more beautiful than the Nereids.
19. Centaurus
Area: (9th)
Symbolism: The Centaur, a hybrid with the upper body of a human and the lower body and legs of a horse
20. Cepheus
Area: (27th)
Symbolism: King Cepheus, husband of Cassiopeia and father of Andromeda
21. Cetus
Area: (4th)
Symbolism: The whale, it comes from the ancient Greek word κήτος which means whale. It is also associated with the sea monster Cetus from Greek mythology, who was slain by Perseus and he saved Andromeda. It is in the middle of "The Sea" because it belongs in an area with a set of water-associated constellations like Aquarius, Eridanus, Pisces and Piscis Austrinus
22. Chamaeleon

Symbolism: The chameleon.
