German national football players (especially those of Turkish/African descent) were heavily criticized for not singing the anthem. The lack of singing was cited as the main reason for not winning important matches (=lack of passion, pride). Few cared that the Spanish team, which beat ours, doesn't even have lyrics. And that the glorious 1970s World Cup winning team was also remained silent during the anthem.

Don't know if these have been published, but here we go:

The Manila Galleon was a trading route used by the Spanish Empire from 1565 to 1815, between the ports of Acapulco (now Mexico) and Manila (now Philippines). Despite crossing a good chunk of the Pacific Ocean, it was done "within" only one colony: the Viceroyalty of New Spain.

In the 1690s, Scotland tried to bring forth the New Caledonia colony in the Darien Gap, and failed. As 20% of Scotland's circulating money was funneled to the scheme, the failure weakened so much the country's economy, it pushes Scotland to accept the Act of Union of 1707, which ended uniting Scotland with England into Great Britain
