It's odd that more people have filled in Havana than the ones for Houston.

Hard quiz!

Not really since the country is given as a clue. Even though Houston is a larger and more important city, it's only one of many notable cities in the US while Havana is the only city in Cuba that anyone has ever heard of, thus the clue gives it away.

Why is Houston a more important city than Havana?
+23
Level 82
Aug 1, 2014
3x more people and even more if you count the urban area. An economy probably at least 50x as big if not more, don't feel like looking it up right now. Houston is much more internationally connected and internationally relevant. On the other hand Havana has a more colorful and interesting history and enjoys some recognition due to its status as a national capital. In my opinion that doesn't make up for the other things.

Actually, 3x more people in the Houston–The Woodlands–Sugar Land metropolitan or statistical combined area; the urban area has around the same population as Havana, and a GDP that isn't quite 50 times it's size, though the MSA or CSA measures push it far beyond.

Important to whom? The US/Americans? Havana is more important to Cuba than Houston is to the US. It's their capital for crying out loud.

More important? I would argue that 11.27 million cubans would strongly disagree with you.

Havana 300 years older than Houston. Havana served as a staging point for the Spanish colonisation of south and central America, was the starting point of the Spanish-American war and contains a UNESCO world heritage site.

Apart from economics, in what way is Houston more 'Important'?

It's not just Cubans Havana's more important to. Add to that all of Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, and Canada.

sleek: important to most people in the world, of which Cubans make up a tiny minority. may 11.27 million Cubans would disagree. Whooptee freaking do. You know there are over 7 billion people in the world who are not Cuban, right? You girls are so funny sometimes.

I suppose "important" is subjective. For some, economy, innovation, and global connectivity are important. For others, status as a national capital and having an old city center are important. Europe has a lot of national capitals and old city centers, so people from Europe are probably prone to think that these are more important. I'd disagree personally, but I can see it both ways.

Havana is Cuba's capital, so of course more people know it than Houston. Further, as an American, I know so many American cities that I have trouble thinking of the right ones, whereas foreign cities are easier to remember because I know fewer...if that makes any sense. I see Cuba and I automatically think of Havana, whereas if I see United States, possibly 500 possibilities jump into my head for me to sort through.

Houston has NFL, NBA and MLB teams...:) j/k....well, I think I know what you mean as there are roughly 250 million n Americans versus 11 Million Cubans....but Cuba is better known around the world than Houston and many people probably connect Cuba with Havana, and the US with New York or LA instead...

The population of Hanoi is 6,936,900 according to http://www.vietnamonline.com/az/hanoi-population.html. I have been there on two separate occasions and there is no way the population is only 2.9 million. My wife was born there and lived there for the first 28 years of her life, and even she has said to me that the population is over 6 million.
