Depends on if you live where there are cuckoos, or cowbirds. I think of cuckoos for their call, rather than their nesting habits.

One more here for cowbirds. I've never seen a cuckoo in my life (except in clocks) but I have cowbirds at my bird feeder all the time.

Is not 'Calor' a Spanish word meaning hot?

A more accurate meaning would be "heat" not "hot"

I really believe it depends more on the usage. "Hace calor: It's hot" (as in weather) "La comida es muy caliente: the food is very hot."

"Calor" means heat; it's a noun, not an adjective. Just because sometimes the most natural English translation involves the word "hot," that doesn't mean that's what calor means. A literal translation of "hace calor" would be "it makes heat."
