Countries On a Sine Function

Can you guess all the countries that the given Sine function runs through? The Prime Meridian is treated as 0 radians, and the function continues for 2π in either direction. The amplitude runs from the Tropic of Cancer to the Tropic of Capricorn. Good luck!
Excluding external territories, such as St. Helena.

Wonderful quiz. I'm not a fan of the colors on the map, but I loved the idea and it was well-done. I think the line passes through St. Helena, Ascension, and Tristaan da Cunha. (It also probably passes through Christmas Island, but Australia is already on here.) Do you count it if the line passes through water territory or only land territory?

I think you should add a caveat excluding territories or add the United Kingdom because of St. Helena, Tristaan da Cunha, and Ascension. It appears that the sine function would go through its water when comparing to this map.

Thanks! I attempted to do land territory, but I gave the benefit of the doubt to the little island countries. What colour of line do you think might look better? I suppose red and yellow are not friends on the colour wheel!

Personally, my main issue is with the countries and water. I think the standard JetPunk colors would look better.

Oh? I just copied the COTW map and put a line on it. Maybe it came out weird because I use dark mode? I'm not sure, though. It looks like the normal colours when I look at it, unless it's slightly off and I can't notice it.

Yeah, the colors are notably different for me. It probably is because of dark mode. I didn't realize dark mode changed map colors!

I'm not sure the line is accurate. If I'm not incorrect, the equation should be lat = sin(long * π/90) * 23.4394. At longitude 80, the latitude should be 8.02, which would have the line passing through Sri Lanka.

Oh dear. I just took a sin function and laid it over the COTW map. The COTW map isn't necessarily entirely accurate, as it's a Mercator projection, but I wonder if I've made some other error. Hmmm.

Yeah, on double checking I cannot get a Sine function to intersect with Sri Lanka on the COTW map if the amplitude is Capricorn and Cancer, but then I also cannot get it to fit properly East to West. I think to do it fully accurately I'd have to do the map from scratch or figure out the exact ways that the COTW isn't accurate.

Whoa, that’s a really cool idea. Wonder how many countries tangent would go through.

I’d have to guess virtually all of them, but I could potentially check it out.

Whats with those massive pi shaped helicopter landing pads? Or oil rigs? Who built them in the ocean?

I think they’re probably Elon Musk’s space elevators. I’m sure he’ll get halfway up and give up and start a circus or something.
