Introduction
Every July I update the quiz "ALL First-Level Subdivisions of the World With a Map", as well as each continent quiz, this blog will show the changes I have made to the quizzes in 2022.
NOTE: When most of the country changes FLSes, the borders of FLSes are shown as red if it is removed or blue if it is added, but when only part of the country changes then the whole subdivision gets highlighted with those same colours.
Map sources at the end of the blog.
Azerbaijan
Wikipedia for whatever reason had Shusha city and Shusha district as separate subdivisions (this old revision) when I was first doing the subdivision quizzes, this has been fixed now thankfully.
I don't know if it was an actual subdivision at that time but it looks like it wasn't.
Central African Republic
On January 21st, 2021, Lim-Pendé, Mambéré, and Ouham-Fafa turned into independent prefectures due to a presidential decree, increasing the number of subdivisions from 17 to 20. The reason this was not updated last year is because it is not on English Wikipedia, only on the French page.
Also keep in mind there is still no way to see the actual borders of the new prefectures, but I estimated it using rivers.
Ethiopia
On the 30th of September, 2021, the western part of the Ethiopian SNNPR(Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region) voted 98% for to make a new region, named South West Ethiopia Peoples' Region, it officially became part of the federation on the 23rd of November of that same year, increasing the number of subdivisions from 12 to 13.
Iceland
On the 17th of February, 2020, Iceland merged four of its municipalities to a bigger Múlaþing municipality, which I completely missed while updating them on the last two years, lowering the number of municipalities from 72 to 69.
But on the 14th of May, 2022, the country did another merger, merging 5 pairs of municipalities, lowering the number of municipalities once again from 69 to 64.
Lebanon
The governorate of Keserwan-Jbeil was first gazetted in 2017, but did not de facto existed until its first governor (Pauline Deeb) was appointed in 2020, increasing the number of subdivisions from 8 to 9. I was going to update it last year but I completely forgot about it.
Madagascar
The region of Vatovavy-Fitovinany was split on 16th of June, 2022 to form, well, Vatovavy and Fitovinany regions, increasing the number of subdivisions in Madagascar from 22 to 23.
Somalia
In Somalia we changed the first-level subdivision type from the 18 regions to its 6 federal states + Banaadir (Mogadishu) region.
Uganda
Remember on last year's blog where I had no idea where a district called "Lusot" was? Apparently the source that Wikipedia used was mistaken, what it was supposed to say was Kalaki district, formerly part of Kaberamaido district. "Lusot" has been removed.
