I think "The Sting" should also work for Police inducement to commit a crime.

I don't know why you would think that since it's not the same.

A Sting is when you lie in wait to catch a criminal committing a crime. Entrapment is enticing a criminal to commit a crime. Example:

Entrapment: A cop handing a kid a can of spray paint to a kid and telling them to spray a wall. When the kid does the cop arrests him for doing so.

Sting: A cop sits in a car across the street from a pawn shop that he believes will get robbed that night. When the criminal shows up to rob it and does so the cop arrests the thug.

The Sting is also not one word.

"The" never counts in these things but I get it. However, if you think back to "To Catch a Predator", that was a "sting" operation. While it could be entrapment, I still think sting works according to the clue...that's it.

Apocalypse could be any apocalyptic movie. You should say whether it’s a meteor strike, is zombie apocalypse, a tidal wave etc

Need to make it more clear.

The rest of the quiz is great

I never got to read that clue because it put in my first answer to the beam of light.

Strongly disagree with the clue Apocalypse for Armageddon. The former is either an unveiling of information or a world-ending disaster/cataclysm (denotation vs. connotation), while the latter is a battle that will be fought, or the place the battle will be fought near the end of the world. At best, Armageddon is a part of an Apocalypse, but that's like saying bananas are fruit salad because they are contained therein.

Do you ever do one of these quizzes and come across a clue which makes you think "the answer the quizmaster is looking for is obvious, but the clue is not strictly speaking correct. I bet someone takes issue with it in the comments section"? Well....

There are a lot of clues here that are not perfect definitions but if I had to pick just one to nitpick over I'd definitely have gone with speed/velocity. Two completely different things. Just ask your Physics teacher. Moreso than Apocalypse/Armageddon which are often used interchangeably even if plats is technically right.

Speed and velocity aren't *totally* different things; speed is a component of velocity. To get velocity, all you need add is the direction.

Chef's and murderers aren't 'totally' different things, knifes are a component of stabbings, all you need is to add a victim?

I think most people can go along with Speed / Velocity (except the occasional pedant)...... but 'Jarhead' for Marine is probably unknown to all but US moviegoers, and 'Hitch' for trailer connection must be a local thing.

English is not my mother tongue and I'm not an expert on things like this, but could "Used to connect a trailer to a truck" also be Hook?
+1
Level 82
Nov 11, 2014
You could use hooks to connect virtually anything but a hitch is more specific.
+1
Level 75

The device is usually called a trailer hitch, Frodo. A simple hook wouldn't be very safe to pull a heavy trailer on the road.
+1
Level 65
Jul 9, 2019
We call it trekhaak, which sort of literally translates to pullinghook. So not just a simple hook (not sure what I should envision with a simple hook btw, there is no standard hook afaik) but just the actual same thing, but called a hook, since well it has a hook in it. (An L on its side, with a rounded ending)

Don't you hitch a trailer to a vehicle? (it's an action)

You don't use a hitch to connect a trailer to the vehicle - that's a tow bar & tow ball.

I'm from NZ and didn't find any definition of hitch to match the clue - is it slang in other countries for the equipment used to connect a trailer to the vehicle?

+1
Level 75

In the US we call them trailer hitches. The hitch might include a ball or pin but the whole device is called a trailer hitch.
