In the netherlands at low tide you can walk to the wadden islands, but noone would ever say they are connected to the mainland.
Can you find me an authorative source that states that sri lanka is not an island? Cause all I keep finding is that it is an island nation, which is seperated from india. (And that it was centuries ago that that landbridge was passable by foot. I am not sure if tides were taken into account, but you would think there would ve been mentions of it. Maybe if people have passed it, they didnt mind wading a bit?)
I am not entirely sure what the story is, but from what I understood Sri Lanka is of course an island country. The hypothetical border is on a small island (between continental India and the main Sri Lanka island) that is shared by the two countries and only appears during low tide.
If you search for if you can walk across, the answer consistently is NO, not since the 15th century (1480). Though a few bits of Adam's bridge/Rama setu are above water most of it isnt, and can be up to 10 meters below the surface.
the presence of a border doesn't necessarily mean you can walk from mainland India to Sri Lanka! You can't walk from Dublin to London but there is an Ireland-UK border
Not to different from my version, what time do you score?
Mine was:
Costa Rica, Guatemala, USA, Brazil, Peru, Sweden, Syria, Senegal, Gabon, Niger Congo, Algeria, Sudan, Somalia, Malawi, South Africa, Ghana, Liberia, South Korea, China, Russia, India, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Austria, Italy, France, Spain, UK, Romania, Serbia, Greece, Haiti. And last one left that doesn't get tagged before, Uzbekistan.
I generally change mine for africa and europe, but ill try sum it up.
USA, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Haiti does NA
Brazil and Peru do South America (SA can also mean south africa, dont want confusion)
After the americas, I do russia, china, india, malaysia, indonesia, thailand or vietnam, and then north/south korea (either one works cuz south korea is not covered by russia or china).
I then do turkey, saudi arabia, and turkmenistan, which covers the whole middle east apart from israel and lebanon. I always do lebanon by itself at some point (it's generally last for me).
For europe, i do spain, france, germany, uk, ukraine, and liechtenstein and monaco by themselves. Italy covers vatican and san marino as well, and i do serbia and greece to clear out the remaining few, and sweden by itself or to cover norway if it hasnt been covered.
For africa, I do Algeria, chad, congo (as typing just 'congo' covers both DRC and Republic of the Congo, and so all those borders)
After Congo, ill do senegal, togo, ivory coast, burkina faso, sierra leone or ghana in no particular order until theyre all covered.
South africa covers all the southern countries, and Malawi sticks out so i have to do that seperate.
Egypt has to be done seperately, and will give israel as well.
After all that, you may be stuck wondering why you have one country left if you forgot one of the tiny ones (Brunei, East Timor, Liechtenstein, Monaco, or Lebanon).
Thats how i mainly do it, and my fastest time is 44 seconds (ive gotten 44 about 3 times, but never beaten it :( )
Now here is my solution: USA Mexico Panama Haiti Peru Honduras Brazil Serbia Albania Norway Germany UAE Austria Slovakia Italy Turkey Poland Romania Russia Saudi Arabia Iran Syria Egypt UK France Spain Uzbekistan Laos Cameroon South Africa North Korea Brunei Ethiopia Ivory Coast Indonesia DRC India Malawi Mali Guinea Niger Libya Togo Gambia. I made it with 15 seconds left.
I too got the badge on untimed, and it says 157/157. Is that supposed to happen? I had read it in the comments. But forgot about it, I was doing the untimed map to work out a strategy. And suddenly the badge popped up.
might not make people happy but I think this calls for a reset, cause people will get the badge without effort.
got it, 3rd try (2nd I missed one country, which I had typed in time, but there was no cursor in the box.. cause I had scrolled/clicked the map..). Probably used too many countries. But I think i did: usa, guatemala, haiti, costarica, brazil, peru. Congo, togo, guinea, niger, senegal, malawi, chad, tunisia, ethiopia, south africa. Iran, iraq, uae, oman, israel, uzbekistan. Uk, france, spain, sweden, greece, moldova, serbia, italy. India, russia, china, south korea, indonesia, malaysia, laos.
Usa, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Haiti, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, uk, Sweden, Russia, Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Romania, Greece, Serbia, Syria, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, algeria, niger, guinea, Gambia, Ethiopia, Gabon, drc, South Africa, Malawi, Uzbekistan, China, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia
5 seconds remaning by writing: northkorea uzbekistan saudiarabia malaysia indonesia burkinafaso ethiopia guatemala costarica armenia germany france austria uk ukraine algeria libya guinea greece serbia sweden brazil peru usa china india niger laos syria italy spain russia haiti gabon gambia congo malawi
The most depressing moment... 156/157. I was so mad because I missed South Korea and I almost finished typing it at the last minute. Well, 156/157 was very difficult but it is sad to see you about to finish. ):
Brazil, Peru for south America. USA, Haiti, costarica, Guatemala for North America. Spain, Sweden, uk, Italy, Germany, Russia, Serbia, Austria, Hungary, Moldova, Albania, Monaco for Europe. Turkey, China, North Korea, Malaysia, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia, Syria for Asia. South Africa, Congo, Sudan, Ethiopia, Algeria, niger, guinea, Ghana, Gabon, Senegal, Malawi for Africa. That will give you all 157
Did anybody else have a problem with you would start off with France and end up with 156/157 and the missing country would be Monaco. Happened to me at least 3 times when I attempted this quiz.
Doesn't the United Kingdom TECHNICALLY border Cyprus via Akrotiri and Dhekelia? I mean, if you say that the UK borders Spain and France borders Brazil and Suriname, you should say that the UK borders Cyprus.
usa haiti guatemala costarica brazil peru southafrica tanzania gabon drc ethiopia burkinafaso niger guinea gambia algeria israel saudiarabia uzbekistan
russia china india indonesia thailand iran southkorea sweden germany france spain italy romania hungary austria greece bosnia serbia uk ALL YOU NEED ENJOY
I just ran through this list and it got me all but Brunei. Need to throw in Brunei or Malaysia... but thanks. You got Asia much smoother than my method!
Well, I managed to get 100% with my second try today, but what is more interesting is this:
I had a 156/157 score 4 seconds before the end. I was not able to make out which country I had not typed. I paused the quiz and started thinking... I started thinking of really small countries. Suddenly I remembered I had not typed neither of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. I knew it was Liechtnstein but I only had 1 second left! I got to another tab, typed the word Liechtenstein, copied it and when I resumed my quiz, I immediately pressed Control+V to paste the word... and it worked! I got a 157/157!
USA Haiti Guatemala Costa Rica Brazil Peru Chad Congo Gabon Ethiopia Mali Togo Guinea Senegal Algeria South Africa Malawi Russia Spain UK Italy Germany France Serbia Ukraine Greece Austria Sweden Israel Saudi Arabia Pakistan India Laos Kazakhstan China Armenia Indonesia Malaysia South Korea
Indonesia, North Korea, Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Congo, Brazil, Peru, Honduras, USA, Mexico, Mozambique, South Africa, Panama, Haiti, Germany, UK, Spain, Sweden, Italy, India, Cambodia, Tajikistan,Israel, Libya, Ethiopia, Gabon, Senegal, Liberia, Togo, Niger, Ukraine,, Macedonia, Austria, France, Brunei, Bosnia
My personal strategy is US, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil, Haiti, Spain, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, UK, Serbia, Greece, Ukraine, Sweden, Russia, Iran, Uzbekistan, China, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Senegal, Guinea, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Algeria, Sudan, Ethiopia, Congo, South Africa, Malawi, India, and finally South Korea
There's bound to be a faster one, has anyone found it?
Here's what I did: (uk usa drc haiti guatemala costa rica brazil peru spain france italy germany austria ukraine russia sweden greece serbia senegal guinea togo algeria chad egypt gabon zambia southafrica ethiopia turkey israel iraq iran oman turkmenistan india china laos brunei indonesia southkorea qatar). You do all the acronyms, then type the rest. Improvements?
edit: I think I've improved it a little bit: (uk usa drc haiti guatemala costa rica brazil peru spain france italy germany austria ukraine russia sweden greece serbia senegal guinea togo algeria chad egypt gabon zambia southafrica ethiopia saudiarabia syria iran uzbekistan india china laos brunei indonesia southkorea). This is better, I think.
Congratulations to myself!!!! I finally got after only about 500 attempts and in one of my most relaxed moments! Adding sanmarino at the end really helped!
not in this order but I think i got it by typing these countries:
germany finland russia china india laos indonesia brunei gabon gambia luxembourg serbia greece turkey saudi arabia mali malawi south africa vatican monaco brazil peru honduras mexico panama haiti guinea romania albania serbia austria sanmarino lebanon
This is the optimal solution by fewest keystrokes:
USA Brazil Peru Guatemala CostaRica UK France Spain Italy Germany Russia Sweden ROK India Indonesia Laos Brunei Iraq UAE Oman Guinea Libya Togo Senegal Syria SouthAfrica Cameroon DC!R Austria Ethiopia Malawi Serbia Romania FYROM Iran Tajistan [sic] (207 keystrokes).
Here ! signifies pressing the left key to get DRC at the same time as getting DR for the first time.
I was surprised that Qatar borders the UAE - where does this happen? It also surprises me that even though PRC for China is only 3 letters, there is no optimal solution that uses it.
This quiz is incomplete. The India-Sri Lanka border has since sunk into the sea, Saudi Arabia borders Bahrain on a tiny island, Cyprus borders the UK, Singapore has a very small land border with Malaysia, Trinidad and Tobago and Venezuela share a border on a nationally disputed uninhabited island, the UK has sovereign military bases in China, Dominica, New Zealand, and Jamaica, and border disputes like Jammu & Kashmir should be taken into account so that India borders Afghanistan, but Pakistan also borders China.
dude territories obviously dont count, like in every quiz, disputes don't count as actual borders, and bahrain doesnt border saudi arabia. You think a level 36 would know this stuff.
Ridiculously difficult to type as fast and accurate as this puzzle requires for many, especially when you have to look at the keyboard when you type. Strategy and memory mean absolutely nothing when a certain physical skill is required.
I had to make a formula, it was getting too hard lmao (it came to 24 seconds left, I made typos too!). here it is anyway (I just made changes):
USA, Guatemala, Costa Rica, DR, Brazil, Peru, France, Spain, UK, Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Russia, Serbia, Romania, Albania, Turkey, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, China, India, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, ROK, Libya, Algeria, Senegal, Liberia, Togo, Cameroon, CAR, Ethiopia, DRC, Tanzania, South Africa.
Note: DR= Dominican republic, ROK= South Korea, CAR= Central African Republic, DRC= Democratic Republic of the Congo
finished with 4 second to spare.. sequence being US, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Haiti, France, Germany, UK, Portugal, Austria, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Kosovo, Croatia, Greece, Uzbekistan, India, Laos, Indonesia, Brunei, South Korea, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Gabon, Algeria, Mali, Siera Leone, Gambia, Togo, Chad, Congo, South Africa, Guinea, Ethiopia, Egypt, Malawi
ok here is what i did. Italy, liechenstein, Spain, Monaco, Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania, Hungary, Montenegro, Greece, Moldova, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, Turkmenistan, China, ROK, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Cambodia, Papua New guinea, Timor leste, Dr, DRC, malawi, south Africa, Somalia, Sudan, Cameroon, Algeria, Guinea, Gambia, Burkina faso, Brazil, ecuador, chile, costa rica, guatemala, Usa
I do it, Usa, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Colombia, Brazil, Chile, Spain, France, Uk, Italy, austria, germany, sweden, russia, china, romania, serbia,(maybe hungary), greece, uzbekistan, iran, saudi arabia, israel, algeria, chad, niger/nigeria, senegal, guinea, ghana, gabon, ethiopia, congo, south africa, malawi, india, thailand, malaysia, indonesia, south korea. If I missed a step sorry, but this is how I do it.
usa, guatemala, costarica brazil peru france spain uk sweden germany russia austria italy romania serbia greece turkey israel saudiarabia uzbekistan india china ROK laos malaysia indonesia algeria senegal guinea togo car congo gabon ethiopia south africa malawi dr
Might not be the best, but its how I got 50 seconds left.
Shortest amount of characters needed to finish (please improvise):
USA Guatemala Costa Rica DR Peru Brazil France Spain Italy Austria Germany UK Ukraine Serbia Russia Greece Iran China Afghanistan Syria Saudi Arabia Libya Niger Morocco Senegal Togo Liberia Congo Gabon Zambia/Malawi South Africa Ethiopia India Malaysia Indonesia Laos North Korea Norway/Sweden/Finland
South Korea, Malawi, Senegal, India, UK, DR (Dominican Republic), Moldova, USA, Laos, Indonesia, Malaysia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Turkmenistan, Turkey, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Kosovo, Bosnia, South Africa, Burkina Faso, Guinea, Cameroon, Libya, Ethiopia, Senegal, Congo (gets both), Austria, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Peru
I ended up at 35 - I don’t think that I can go any quicker. And, certainly under 30 doesn’t seem realistically possible. I would have to see it to believe it.
Adding my name to those who finally achieved it. It does seem sad that such a good quiz just ends up a race against time to type in a list of countries you have carefully worked out in advance to minimise keystrokes. Would be nice to have a quiz like this with more time so you can figure it out as you go.
USA, Guatemala, CostaRica, Haiti, Brazil, Peru, Senegal, Togo, Cameroon, Liberia, Libya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zambia, southafrica, southkorea, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Syria, saudiarabia, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Moldova, Serbia, Greece, Spain, Italy, Austria, France, UK.
