That official name may change - there's a referendum to change the state's constitution to that effect, this coming election (November 2020). Apparently, "pl*****ion" is a dirty word.

Not that it’s a dirty word, but it connects the state to slavery in an official capacity. It’s not like it’s washing away history, the history will still be taught, but slavery has no need to be part of the official state names.
