Sulawesi, Java, Luzon, Mindanao, and Hokkaido are all larger than Sakhalin. Australia is a continent, not an island.

Agree. Sakhalin is now removed but Australia is still there. How can it be the continental landmass and an island at the same time?!?!? Also, Tenerife is bigger than Bioko (just) and Fuerteventura bigger than Zanzibar.
