In addition, I added more cities (all above 150k) with up to date 2023 data.
For English and Welsh cities the latest available numbers came from mid 2021, so I used the average annual growth of the cities to come to my present numbers.
For most cities I used the municipal area unit for population. In cases in which the municipal unit far exceeded the city proper area I used the population of the proper city.
In three cases I used another method. These city proper populations do not reflect the actual city size AND have another areal unit which accurately falls together with a more true to size number:
* Not the city proper population (which has about 650.000 inhabitants) but the four North, East, South and West areas of the same name.
** Not the city proper population (which has about 190.000 inhabitants) but the homonymous 'capital region'.
*** Not the commune population (which is around (650.000), but the homonymous authorial unit population which doesn't only include the commune of the same name, but also the Frederiksberg, Tårnby and Dragør commune.
