I like the idea. It would look better if identical hints were merged in the answer grid. Also, there's an e missing in "Tbilisi, in some languages still known by its pre-1936 nam(e)". You might want to look over the type-ins as Ulan Bator currently accepts Ulaanbaatar and Sana'a accepts just Sana. Also, Sana'a is the standard on JetPunk, so you might want to swap Sanaa (in the clue) and Sana'a (currently an answer).
