A difficult one. I'm somewhat interested in volcanoes yet I only got 7. Still good enough to beat 95.5% of test takers. :) Could have got 8 but I thought "nah, it doesn't seem like Vestmannaeyjar is any of those".

I've never heard about 3 of these volcanoes.

Even though Surtsey is an accepted answer for Vestmannaeyjar, it should’ve appeared as the answer shown in the blank, not vice versa since Surtsey is the name of only the volcanic island itself while Vestmannaeyjar refers to the archipelago that Surtsey is a part of. It’s kinda like showing a picture of Maui while the answer below says Hawaii, with both these answers being accepted.

I understand where you’re coming from, but I am specifically referring to the name of the volcanic SYSTEM in the image. Surtsey is part of the Vestmannaeyjar system, which includes Heimaey (Eldfell/Helgafell) and several other small islands in the vicinity. Similarly, the volcano Paricutin is an element/vent of the much larger Michoacán-Guanajuato volcanic field, and the Lakagigar crater row is a part of the Grimsvotn system rather than being its own entity. If Surtsey was the single primary vent of the Vestmannaeyjar system, I would certainly put that as the answer, like I did with Sakurajima which is the primary point of interest in the Aira caldera; however, Surtsey (1964-7) is not even the most recent vent of the Vestmannaeyjar system (Eldfell, 1973), and it has only ever erupted once.

Well, I know the volcanoes in New Zealand. Most of these ones, not so much.

The volcanoes in New Zealand are very cool… unfortunately they’re not maybe quite as famous… I could have put a picture of Tongariro or Whakaari on here too though
