The Russian Federation consists of republics, krais, oblasts, cities of federal importance, autonomous oblasts, and autonomous okrugs.

Some subjects are part of other subjects.

In the 2000s, six sparsely populated subjects were downgraded to "territories with special status" after being integrated into more populated subjects. These territories are nonetheless included in this quiz, but the entity they are now part of is included in parentheses.
