Interesting quiz. I guess this is the only way you could consider medal counts where Australia comes out on top of the USA? Good job. :) I guessed Australia first for that reason. and New Zealand. Then I got Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway because I know they often dominate the Winter Olympics in spite of small populations. Surprised Canada didn't make it for the same reason. I picked up Jamaica because they often do well in spite of being tiny and poor. Guessed Czechoslovakia because of the hint that non-existent countries are included, and then got Romania after I was thinking of former Soviet satellites. These countries likely got unfair boosts in these rankings as though their populations were small they were essentially extensions of the Soviet Union. I missed East Germany because I guessed Germany and just assumed it would be included.

Thanks heaps kalbahamut! It's not about putting down the US or anyone else. It's about giving some other countries a bit more credit... a bit more of a mention on Jetpunk. Yeah, with these no longer existent countries you've gotta go one way or the other. Either you go with Czechoslovakia and East Germany or you don't. And I guess, seeing as they did so well when they did exist, let's give them the credit.

nah that's cool, I agree. It's boring when every quiz is measured the same way and you end up with the same answers at the top. I don't think that's what you were trying to do here, but your comments often do give the impression that you would like to put down the US. It's kind of a running theme. Looking forward to more of your quizzes in the future... ;-)

Thanks Kalbahamut! No, it's not meant that way. Jetpunk is such a fun site... but it is really US-centric. Which can be frustrating. There are US only quizzes - fine. And then there's quizzes involving lots of US questions that non-US people could know - also fine. But then there are all sorts of US questions that non-US couldn't possibly know. I.e. US only food chains or adverts or state governors etc etc. So yeah, the idea is to put up some quizzes involving other countries as well.

All this said... given your well documented anti-US bias it's obvious why you'd go with per capita figures. And... while it's interesting to look at... the title of the quiz is misleading. It should be "Most Olympic Medals per Capita" or something along those lines, because it's absurd to assert that the Bahamas, Bermuda and Trinidad have a stronger athletic or competitive tradition than Germany, France, Russia, the Soviet Union, China, Japan, or (especially) the United States. and quite a few other countries. The fact of the matter is population is a very poor indicator of Olympic performance and we can conclude it has almost nothing to do with it if you toss out the stats on micronations. Economic development, competitive spirit, infrastructure & natural environment (access to places to train), genetics & athleticism, and support for athletes are the important factors. If population was so important then India would be an Olympics powerhouse. But it's not.

"Then I got Finland, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway because I know they often dominate the Winter Olympics in spite of small populations."

This quiz includes only summer olympic medals (according to info)

Hi. That's correct... this quiz only includes Summer Olympic medals. No doubt they'd do even better if it was about or included the Winter Olympics.

Hi sly, I already have as a clue... "This includes countries that may no longer exist under that name." But I like your phrasing better. Ta
