Darn it.. missed one. Iran. Most people probably dont realize that Italy and Sweden don't even make the top 20 anymore. Production has shifted to cheaper areas.

I was going to say the same thing. Very hard to believe that Sweden (Volvo, Saab) and Italy (Fiat, Ferrari) produce fewer cars than Slovakia (?). Who'd have known?

Sweden's manufacturing has moved abroad with the sale of Volvo and I think Saab quit completely a year or two ago. Labour in Sweden is just too expensive. Ferrari is a luxury car, so they don't make that many of it. Not sure about what's behind Fiat..

I only knew Slovakia because we learned about it in Geography a while back. A lot of car manufacturers started producing in Slovakia due to the cheap labour costs, as well as how close it is to countries that buy the most cars (e.g. Germany, France, UK) :)

Italian cars are produced in small quantity cause they build cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Alfa Romeo etc etc. Slovakia and Indonesia has production plants for major brands such as Toyota, Nissan and Ford

The Italian cinquecento is awful. But what we have in the US isn't that. It's still called the 500 and is not much bigger, but it doesn't have that pathetic half-liter engine, (and it takes two people to lift it.)

cinquecentos (500) aren't even built in Italy. Built in Poland, or the ones for the USA market are built in the Chrysler plant in Mexico. Jeep Renegades, however are built in Italy.

A little surprised to see the UK here seeing as there are no major British car companies anymore and an island doesn't seem like the best place for Asian and US firms to build cars for the European market, I guess the working wage must be low enough for it to be economical.

Living standards in Sweden are dramatically higher than the UK, virtually no manufacturing jobs left. Volvo have been sold off to a Chinese company (I think) and Saab has been stopped completely. UK probably thrives off top-market cars, like the Bentlyey/RR...etc as previously mentioned. Manufacturing in UK is obviously still falling, that said.
