I don't understand why a hut is a hiker's abode. Hiking is an outdoor activity. While indoors, hikers live in the same types of dwellings as everyone else. I don't see the connection.
Tents and huts are different things. A hut is like a cabin. It's a pre-built establishment at a specific point along the trail, and can have bunk beds and basic amenities for hikers. A tent is carried in by the hiker, who sets it up themselves anywhere they choose. Not all trails have huts. They're common on trails in New Zealand where I'm from. Less so where you're from (or just called something else), clearly.
