Interview of a JetPunker #6 - Penguinish

+4

Hello everyone!

It's time for a new interview. And, to start, I would like to tell you I'm very sorry, because I was very busy, and I just published now this interview which I projected to publish Sunday or Monday. Thank you a lot for your patience.

Before writting this blog, I made a little poll on the Discord server (yes, I know, ChineseChen cries...), and everyone thought IAB would be the next interviewee. You all failed, because today, I will interview Penguinish!

baptistegorce: Hi Penguinish!

Penguinish: Hello Poirot!

baptistegorce: Are you ready?

Penguinish: Yes, of course!

baptistegorce: So let’s start this interview! First, could you present yourself on JetPunk quickly for our readers who don’t know you?

Penguinish: Hello, I am Penguinish! I am 18 years old and from Finland. I have been regularly using JetPunk since late 2017 when I created my account after testing my knowledge of the countries of the world. I started to get more into quizmaking about a year ago and during the past half a year I have mainly been concentrating on translating quizzes to Finnish.

baptistegorce: You are probably the most famous Finnish quizmaker, and you are the “official translator” in this language of many English featured quizzes. What does it represent for you?

Penguinish: I am not sure about being the most famous Finnish quizmaker, but indeed the majority of the Finnish featured quizzes were translated by me. Additionally, I have been the one translating the site to Finnish. It has been an honour to work on this task as in my opinion adding new "official" languages on JetPunk is an excellent way to make the site more accessible. Even though most Finns do speak English rather well, the Finnish section is a way to promote more Finland-related quizzes instead of the more US- or UK-centric quizzes in the English section.

baptistegorce: How did you feel when Stewart told you that Finnish would become a featured language?

Penguinish: The moment when Stewart suggested that Finnish could become a featured language, I got pretty excited. It was a huge opportunity to further help improve a site that is one my all-time favorites.

baptistegorce: Do you have big projects of quizzes or blogs in preparation?

Penguinish: The big project I am working on right now is translating all the country quizzes to Finnish. As I have been relatively busy with university for the past months, I haven't had the time to plan or work on other JetPunk-related projects.

baptistegorce: “JetPunk actuality question”: Have you been impacted by the Kalbahamut’s blog where he wrote he will stop to comment on JetPunk?

Penguinish: To be honest, seeing one of the most impactful commenters decide to stop commenting hasn't had a large impact on me personally. Reading the quiz comments hasn't really been too important for me and 1 user leaving won't have a gargantuan effect on the site, even though it's always sad to see such a prevalent user decide to step down.

baptistegorce: What is the most important event in your own life of JetPunker?

Penguinish: I can't decide on just one singular moment, so I will mention two. First of all, getting the chance to make Finnish a featured language and translate most of the site to Finnish has been huge. The second important event was getting my first featured English quiz. Getting your original quiz featured in English just feels completely different from getting a translated quiz featured. So those would be my 2 most impactful events on JetPunk.

baptistegorce: If you had to choose just three JetPunkers for their quizzes, who will it be?

Penguinish: First I have to mention Stewart, IAB and Jiaozira. All of them have a plenty of high-quality quizzes on topics I am interested in or quizzes that I have found intriguing. Stewart's Category Elimination series, Sequential quizzes and Pixelated quizzes were all really entertaining. IAB's high-class subdivision and city quizzes have all been a useful way to further improve my knowledge of these subjects. Jiaozira's map quizzes are always well-made and offer a challenge.

baptistegorce: And for their blogs?

Penguinish: I have to be honest: I don't spend a lot of time reading the blogs on JetPunk. But among the blogs I have read, my favorites are these interviews. Then there have been great one-off blogs by a large number of users, so I won't be listing all of them.

baptistegorce: What are your passions in life, except JetPunk?

Penguinish: Probably my most time-consuming and notable passion is learning and studying. I am studying computer science, and I would say I am passionate about studying it. In general, I am always fascinated by learning more about this world we live in. Outside of university studies, I like to spend a fair bit of time learning languages.

baptistegorce: You are in the JetPunk Discord server. Is it a good experience? Why?

Penguinish: I joined the JetPunk Discord server over a year ago and it has been a great way to meet other JetPunk users and like-minded people. As the server is currently relatively small, it's often easier for a more introverted and shy person like me to jump in the conversations and keep track of what is going on. The server also has more in-depth discussions about interesting subjects than most other Discord servers. The events organized on the server have been a blast too!

baptistegorce: What do you hope for JetPunk development in the next months?

Penguinish: When it comes to the future development of the site, I hope the core aspects of the site remain as that's what makes JetPunk the fantastic site it's today. I also hope the site keeps getting updates like the recent minigame Geography Snap and the update to series. When it comes to more concrete ideas, I would hope for an easier way to add quizzes of several users to one series and a new quiztype where the quiz would be over after an incorrect answer.

baptistegorce: It's the end of this interview. Thank you a lot, Penguinish!

Penguinish: You're welcome!

I hope you liked your reading. I'll try to be faster for the next interviews than for this one...

And keep having a frequent looking at the recent blogs section, because, although I am the dictator of this series, I have a little surprise for you...

One question: when Doscord is mentioned, why everyone mention ChineseChen? He was banned of the Jet’s Discord?
