A History of Green: Chapter 1

+2

Origins: Chapter 1

Green has nearly always been a widely used colour, from Roman Times to the Renaissance and from the Middle Ages to the Present. Lets take a look at the history of this fascinating colour.

The Stone Age: First greens were basic pigments often made by crushing green minerals such as malachite and mixing them with white substances such as natural milks or egg whites to make an emerald-like green, or using blue pigments and mixing them with yellow pigments. Green was not used as much as colours like red, brown or black, but it had its special place in the world.

In the New Stone Age or the Neolithic Era, farming flourished which led to a big increase of green in people's lives, but it still wasn't a very popular colour to paint with, even though it was relatively easily made compared to other colours.
