NFL Wild Card Recap
The final game on Saturday was between the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs streaming exclusively on Peacock. The game was notable for being -4 degrees Fahrenheit at kickoff, making it the fourth coldest game in NFL history. That worked for the Chiefs’ advantage, as Miami was just unable to get their offense going. The Chiefs easily won 26-7.
Sunday kicked off with the Green Bay Packers going to Arlington, Texas to face off against the Dallas Cowboys. The game was not even close, as Green Bay jumped to an early 27-0 lead. They kept the momentum going eventually winning 48-32. This was the biggest upset from this weekend.
The game Sunday night was between Matthew Stafford and the Los Angeles Rams against Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions. This was a revenge game for both quarterbacks, as Jared Goff used to be on the Rams, and Matthew Stafford used to be on the Lions. The game was incredibly close until the very end, and it ended with a 24-23 Lions win. This was their first playoff victory since 1991, and with the Cowboys’ loss, it ensures that Detroit would host another playoff game in the divisional round.
There were two games on Monday. The Steelers vs Bills game, originally scheduled for Sunday, was postponed to Monday due to a snowstorm. Nevertheless, the Bills took care of business, winning the game 31-17.
The final game of Super Wild Card Weekend was between the Philadelphia Eagles and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Eagles WR AJ Brown was ruled out for the game, and it was evident that this had an effect on Philadelphia’s offense, Tampa Bay easily won 32-9.
Divisional Round
The schedule of the divisional round has been released!
Two games on Saturday, January 20
Texans at Ravens @ 4:30 PM ET
Packers at 49ers @ 8:15 PM ET
Two games on Sunday, January 21
Buccaneers at Lions @ 3:00 PM ET
Chiefs at Bills @ 6:30 PM ET
Couple of notes about the teams remaining:
The Texans have never appeared in an AFC championship
A rookie QB and rookie coach have never won a playoff game, until the Texans-Browns game, can they continue?
The Ravens have been the #1 seed before, and they lost in the divisional round (2019), can they redeem themselves?
The Packers are the first ever #7 seed to win a playoff game
The Lions have not appeared in an NFC championship game since 1991
This is now the third time Patrick Mahomes will face off against Josh Allen in the playoffs
However, it’s the first time that the Bills will be the home team
And this will also be the first away playoff game for Patrick Mahomes in his career (excluding Super Bowls)
I kinda want the bills or bucs or texans to win, but I feel like a 49ers Chiefs Super Bowl is coming this year
