Jakarta is sinking...

Jakarta is sinking!

(And check out the bottom and P.S. because I need help and I need some people telling me how I can improve my blogs and how to put pictures in them)

I am not from Indonesia, but I have heard that Jakarta has been sinking by at least 10 cm in some places.

This may be happening because of the following:

1-Jakarta is a flood prone city.

When the monsoon season of Southeast Asia comes, heavy rains, typhoons and strong winds can damage buildings, and cause floods, therefore also making the ground moist. The buildings then might slowly sink into the moist ground.

2-Rising sea levels

The rising sea levels nowadays are caused by global warming. With a population of 33,430,285 in its metro area, Jakarta needs to produce a lot of electricity. It then contributes to the many pollutants up in the sky, and causes global warming, the reflection of heat to the earth, but more heat gets trapped in the Earth, warming it up.

3-Over extraction of groundwater

The over extraction of groundwater causes the ground to lose firmness and therefore commences sinking. The groundwater makes the soil structurally sound because it holds heavy rocks up (I think, I'm not that good at groundwater science) and therefore gives structural soundness to the buildings. Without groundwater, the rocks sink and the buildings sink too.

"But what about the new capital?"

Don't worry, the president, Joko Widodo, said the new capital would be on Borneo, if this ever happened. Other theories may be that it will be on Palembang or Medan (my theory). Most likely, this will not happen yet.

Well, thanks for reading my first (long) blog post. If there is anything I could improve on, please tell me in the comments. (anything I could improve on, except images, check P.S.)

P.S. Could someone teach me how to put in images for my blog, because when I add images, it shows a white paper with a picture. Please help!

Eh, so's Mexico City. A sinking city is nothing new or even special.

But a neat blog.

That's exactly what happens when you turn a wetland into a city. The ground is already unstable, and extracting groundwater makes it worse, yet so many cities keep doing this.

Interesting, but scary. Jakarta has such a large population that it would be almost an apocalypse for so many people to leave home in such danger. You have improved quality well, and as soon as you make an image:

<img src="URL of the image" height="HEIGHT OF THE IMAGE" />

Why, thank you!

And also, my image was uhh... "not valid"

So, you can use images from Wikimedia Commons, or Pixabay.

But what format?

.png or .jpg or.svg?

Which ones???? :(

You can choose. I think the format that you cannot use, is .tif. .tif is only for thumbnails, but sometimes it didn’t work, because .tif archives open a PDF, and JetPunk don’t support PDFS in this case.

OMG. Did you put the code correctly?

Feb 13, 2021
Which code?

img src="image url" alt="Alternate text" border="0" height="height of image" width="width of image" align="alignment"

Is that the correct code?

IF not, what is the code?

Please!

Let me know!

(I put no <> on purpose for the sake of the visual look)

That’s the problem. You need to put this code:

<img src="https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f6/Jakarta_Pictures-1.jpg" height="I sometimes use 250" />

At the height, I only give you a tip. 250 is a very nice height, and I always use it. You only need to put the number. At the URL, I only used an image from Wikimedia Commons. You can put any image, but try to use images from Wikimedia Commons/Pixabay, because they are legal images.

In reality, maybe is correct, but I only use the height. Maybe this is the problem. Sometimes I use the border, but after the height. Try now.

But at the top, it said "valid link".

What is a valid link @NeilVedwan?

+1

An image that belongs to an actual image. So that means if you _____.png is an invalid link.
