Some suggestions for Jetpunk

+6

A note to readers

To everyone who loves Jetpunk as much as I, I want you to know that I am not complaining. I love Jetpunk and these are simply suggestions that would go the extra mile. (Not that it already hasn’t.)

Type-In changes

There are a couple type-in changes I think Jetpunk should make. The first one is being South Korea. I think that South Korea should also be known simply as, “Korea.” Most players first joining Jetpunk (most playing the, “Countries of the World,” quiz) will simply call South Korea just Korea because South Korea often produces things and doesn’t put, “Made in South Korea,” it is put, “Made in Korea.” I feel that a player should also be able to put, “Salvador,” instead of El Salvador, but that might just be cause I’m lazy.

Auto-save

An auto-save feature on Jetpunk would be amazing! There has been so many times where I accidentally close the tab without saving on my almost finished Jetpunk quiz. Most of the time I get so mad that I just quit making the quiz at all. If quizzes where auto-saved the feature would be loved by all quizmakers. No more is needed to be said.

A better thumbnail website

While Wikipedia Commons is great, the real problem is Pixabay. Sometimes I haven’t made a quiz yet today, but I’m too lazy to get the computer, so I just make a mobile quiz. Wikipedia Commons is relatively hard to use on touch screen, so I usually just use Pixabay. I’ll search up the German flag, but there is no actual picture. The closest thing is a old ripped up German flag. I just feel like if Jetpunk could figure something out, that’d be great.

I'd imagine you've never run into the problem of closing the window before saving, because instead of having an auto-save, there is a pop-up which verifies if you really want to close the window/tab (reminding you that you haven't saved your quiz).

I agree, but that doesn’t happen on mobile

Ahh, ok. Editing/creating quizzes on the mobile version can be difficult in general

A note on the mobile thing above, some browsers and devices don't let you restrict tab closing on mobile, so there's nothing we can do. Also auto-saving is an interesting feature, but is also something which could cause problems because we don't store a history of the quiz, meaning if you save and refresh you cannot go back.

On the thumbnails, I'd highly recommend using the "search inside collections" for flags and shapes. This will search JetPunk quizzes for pictures matching keywords you enter, and is generally the fastest way to find factual images like Flags, Shapes, Logos etc...

Or maybe, for that Germany Flag thing, you can just search up on Wikipedia “Germany”, find the picture, and go to the Commons thing is below the picture. Just catch the link

Also, it would be great if you could use BrandFetch in addition to Wikimedia Commons and Pixabay.

Yeah, auto save would actually be very irritating for me unless it was keeping a history. I'll often experiment on a quiz to test things out or just see if I like an idea. I don't want it saving all the time without me choosing to and losing the quiz as it was. It would be much easier to accidentally close a tab on PC and lose your undo history.

Pixabay has its problems, but we have to deal with them because it's copyright-free. Everything is in the public domain, so QM doesn't have to deal with any sort of infringement on the website (it also prevents our blogs/quizzes from being taken down). I think Wikimedia Commons is serviceable. It can be hard to find exactly what you want at times, but it does its job well.

You can use official jetpunk series. Also a good update is to sort out 100% quizzes out of the randomize function.

People are always saying Pixaby is bad. I personally disagree, except for country flags and shapes (which as Stewart said, you could youse collections). I would like a better reason why Pixaby is this horrible sight that should be avoided at all costs.

You say Wikipedia commons instead of Wikimedia.

I never said pixabay was to be avoided at all costs, i often use it, but it is not the best

I generally think that Pixabay is bad. Many thumbnails for generic search keywords are repeated a lot and a lot of them are stock photos, which don't always look good as thumbnails.

I really don't get the Korea part. They're commonly called North and South Koreas to differentiate between them. The "Made in Korea" part is not a valid argument because this is based off the South Korean political view and presents no neutrality. If you just want a short type-in, "ROK" exists.

Exactly. Korea can be accepted for both North Korea and South Korea in some quizzes but not in Cotw and similar ones. The most which can be done is accepting SK and NK though we already have DPRK and ROK for that
