Former U.S. President John Tyler took the side of the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was even elected to the Confederate House of Representatives, but died in 1862 before he could serve. At his burial, his coffin was draped in the Confederate flag, making him the only U.S. President ever laid to rest under the flag of another nation.
