Tom Brady wins beer chugging competitions with his teammates. How is he a non-drinker?

Tom Brady has been replaced with Susan B. Anthony who definitely never won any chugging competitions.

I've heard that Alexander the Great once stabbed one of his closest men while drunk.

Edit: It was Clitus the Black: https://www.livius.org/articles/person/clitus-the-black/

Well, I didn't, but I shamelessly stereotyped Russians and got it correct anyway.

Me too. Never heard. Maybe she is more famous in USA?

Yes, Susan B. Anthony was a women's suffrage activist in the U.S.

I don't think that Modi really needs a description when Susan B. Anthony or even Boris Yeltsin don't have descriptions.

Yeah, why does Modi get an explanation even though he's world-famous, but Anthony doesn't? If I'd known what she's famous for, I'd've gotten her right.

There's a bit of a disconnect between "alcoholic" in the title and "drinker" in the choices, as "drinker" can also include non-teetotalers who consume alcohol socially/moderately. Are/were all of the "drinkers" known to be particularly heavy drinkers? (I know that Yeltsin and Hemmingway were; not sure about the others)
+2
Level 57
Jul 11, 2021
Yeah, it would probably better to use "abused", and "abstained", than "drinker", and "non-drinker".

The description, title, and quiz are accurate. Everyone on this list was a notorious drinker or abstained almost completely. There are no borderline cases.

Leaving the spectrum of consumption aside for a moment, "teetotaler" is someone who **totally** abstains from alcohol -- it's a term originally from the temperance movement and indicates complete observance, and carries political/philosophical connotations. Just as you don't call yourself a vegan if you eat steak when it suits you, you wouldn't be called a teetotaller for abstaining from alcohol "nearly completely". I read the description so I understood how to answer the questions, but I think it is odd and incorrect to use it to refer to both teetotallers and light drinkers alike.

Anyone notice how you’d rather be included with the piss-heads than the other lot?

Churchill, Hemingway and Van Gogh? Or Hitler, Modi and Trump? It seems teetotallers cause the World’s troubles as well as being no fun

For the record, not drinking doesn't equal "no fun". And I say that as a regular drinker. I just think that your way of thinking can be nocive.

There's a French epigram on this subject I like to quote: "Tous les méchants sont buveurs d'eau : C'est bien prouvé par le déluge." (Only the wicked drink water, which is proved by the Flood."

Didn’t Alexander famously not drink alcohol until Persepolis, which was blamed for why he let his soldiers burn it to the ground, unlike his usually generous terms? I read that in my youth, although maybe that explanation has since fallen out of favor

I hadn't heard that one. I only knew Alexander was a drinker because one theory for his cause of death is alcohol poisoning.

First of all he was raised as a prince in Ancient Greece, there's no way he had not had alcohol (wine).

And the burning of Persepolis was carried out in revenge of the sack of Athens and Eretria by the Persians in 490/480 BC
