In case you're still wondering, 3 years later: Cote D'Ivoire has indicated that the French version is its official name, even in other languages, it's not just a translation thing. Timor-Leste, however, can be translated into several languages, so in standard English terminology, it's East Timor.
Timor-Leste is, by its government's declaration, the same in every language (the only other countries in this category are Côte d'Ivoire and Cabo Verde).

Interestingly enough, it used to be a country, but not anymore. And, no, Texas is not in Canada, but rather is now part of the United Alliance of Kyrgyzstan. :)
Area of the Mongol Empire at maximum extent: 9.27 million square miles. 100x bigger than the Mongol Empire: 927 million square miles. Area of Earth: 197 million square miles. That's quite the empire!
The Bahamas and The Gambia has the in their official names. It does, however, not coutn in the alphabitcally order. It's like if you take a list of misicias. The Beatles will be under 'B' and not 'T'.
Kind of funny that El Salvador is on the "E" quiz, not the "S" quiz, but The Gambia is on the "G," not the "T" quiz. I guess Spanish articles are special.
I'm curious how many hits we get from China. I don't know if it's accurate but I just checked on some website to see if Jetpunk was blocked there already and it says that it is not.
Thanks, Quizmaster for generating a quiz that has, in turn, generated a fascinating and amusing collection of comments over more than 5 years discussing marvelously trivial (and not so trivial) facts and di minimis data. Interesting, witty, and courteous chat. Fun to read.
Could Trinidad & Tobago be accepted as TAT? That would go a bit faster, because I was not really great in time the first time I tried this quiz and struggled getting Trinidad & Tobago in time.
I feel like The Gambia's official name is The Gambia, which starts with T. But perhaps I am wrong. "According to the CIA World Factbook, the US Department of State, the Times Comprehensive Atlas of the World and the Permanent Committee on Geographical Names for British Official Use, the Gambia is one of only two countries whose self-standing short name for official use should begin with the word "The" (the other one being The Bahamas)." Wikipedia Thank you for the excellent quiz.
