I can already see that Mali and Niger are missing, but there could be some others...

Ok, with scambigol's map, it's easy to see that there are no other misses. Apart from that, I think you're generous with Mexico and Saudi Arabia, but their tropical zones are most certainly bigger than Zambia. I may try to check that ;).

No Papua New Guinea is surprising. I thought it was a lot bigger.

Very disappointing that this quiz scores points while omitting both Niger - 100% tropical and 1267000 sq km - and Mali, with an area of 1,240,140 sq km and 95% tropical, so scores 1,178,133.

I'm just guessing but maybe they were left out because they are missing from my quiz but are so close to 100% that on the map it looks like they are completely in the tropics

I thought the same thing, though it's quite obvious that a bit of Mali is missing.

this website seems to have data on area within tropics - https://www.pdx.edu/econ/country-geography-data

This was quite confusing. One doesn't typically associate hot, arid desert countries with tropical countries since to most, tropical means hot, humid, green/jungle all over, not hot, dry and arid/desert. Even the koppen climate classification doesn't call hot deserts in the geographical tropics by any kind of "tropical" term.

The Tropics are defined as the area between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn where the sun can shine directly overhead at some point during the year. It has nothing to do with greenery.

I added this to the quiz description in case other people were confused

What about Australia? How do they have less area in the tropics than Saudi Arabia. If you look on a map of Australia and you see the city of Rockhampton in Queensland, the tropics start just a little before it.

Australia has less % of the country in the tropics than Saudi Arabia, but over twice the square km area at 2.89 mil km2 to 1.07 mil km2.
