An iconic film that has been considered a masterpiece for ages, that won three Academy Awards, with mythical scenes and songs and memorable quotes that are still used seventy years after it premiered only has a 25%. And you are worried about the last film for teenagers that no one will remember in three or four years?

I walked out of Hunger Games. Stupid movie, built on a stupid premise. Depicting a bully snapping the neck of a 10-year old kid as a way to show the audience who the bad guy was? That movie wasn't worth 1 more minute of my time. Afterward, when my friends realized I had walked out and waited for them, to a person, all said they wished they had walked out too. Some things just are not entertainment for me, even though they're splashed across a large screen.

The Hunger Games is a great premise that was just butchered. If the books (and movies) focused more on the nature of the totalitarian state, or even the way in which Katniss exploits and manipulates the entertainment media in order to survive, it would have been great. Instead, the franchise opted to focus on a cliche love triangle reminiscent of Twilight and a million other shitty movies.

I think it's impossible to hear about this movie and avoid spoilers at this point. The film is not very famous or well known... but that one line from it gets used as a pop culture reference all the time. I had heard it dozens of times over the years before I finally decided to look it up and figure out what they were referencing. Then I got the movie from Netflix and watched it. But the first thing I knew about it was the spoiler.

Ha! I'd like to see a mash-up of The Sound of Music and The Hills Have Eyes in which the whole sorry von Trapp family get eaten by misshapen, inbred cannibals. THAT'S a sing-a-long-a Sound of Music I could tap my foot to.

I actually don't like the term "chick flicks", and this list was better than most but perhaps I should have said more classics, dramas, musicals, romantic comedies, etc. Here are a few I thought of. "If you look for it I've got a sneaky feeling that Love, Actually is all around." "Through the internet? Yes. You've Got Mail. Yes! Some very powerful words." "When destiny has a sense of humor you call it Serendipity." "What if this is As Good As It Gets?" "And though you turn from me to glance behind, The Phantom of the Opera is there, inside your mind." "Everyone of us is a Fiddler on the Roof trying to scratch out a pleasant, simple tune without breaking his neck." "Consider The Lilies of the Field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin." "Tale as old as time, song as old as rhyme, Beauty and the Beast."

I remember reading the Harry Knowles review of Tomb Raider way back and in it he harshly criticized the movie for saying "tomb raider" at some point during the run time of the film, commenting that this never happens in cinema. At the time I was thinking this was completely wrong and immediately thought of many examples like the above.
