I'm thinking that D is a trick question. Every source I've ever seen lists only four countries that start with D. They normally have this as 'Congo, Democratic Republic of'.

This should be Djibouti with 3.

Level 67

Quite a few Jetpunk quizzes do list Democratic Republic of Congo under D, as it makes for a more difficult question. Also, that is how you spell it, to differentiate it from the Republic of Congo.

If you're going to accept Djibouti as a type-in, then should Denmark be a type-in too? It has three borders: Germany, Sweden (via Oresund Bridge) and Canada (via Hans Island)

I agree with that. Congo is misleading here..

How is it? There are two distinctive Congolese countries, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of the Congo. It makes sense for "Congo" to be referred to for the latter, but not for DRC.
+2
Level 71
May 22, 2016
I agree, as jetpunk takes 'Congo' to represent DRCongo then it should not be expected that other quizzes on jetpunk use different versions, or if doing so they still allow 'Congo'.
+10
Level 78
May 23, 2016
The common way to differentiate them in international circles is calling them "Congo-Kinshasha" and "Congo-Brazaville". DRC is misleading because in no other country we are using the full legal name. "People's Republic of China", "Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela" and "Sultanate of Oman" are not listed by P, B and S respectively.
+7
Level 61

Rocamorar, I disagree. First, if you think that those names you put really are the common way to differentiate them, you probably should spell them right. Second, DRC is certainly not the only country that we use the official name for. What about Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Belize, Burkina Faso, Canada, Czech Republic, Dominican Republic, Georgia, Grenada, Ireland, Jamaica, Japan, Malaysia, Mongolia, Montenegro, New Zealand, Romania, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Solomon Islands, Tuvalu, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates, or United States of America? Third, Congo-Brazzaville and Congo-Kinshasa are not the most common ways to differentiate the countries. I've seen simply Congo and DRC the most. I agree that D is the first letter of the country's name, and I would say that if asked. Maybe the "D" country besides DRC with the most borders should be a type-in, but D.R. Congo is the correct response to be in the box.

Standards differ, that's just the way the world is. If the quiz had used Djibouti, someone else would be in your place complaining that it's wrong and should be the DR Congo. The best Jetpunk can do is make sure the quizzes here are internally consistent, and all the others I've taken so far here have treated DR Congo as a "D" country, so it makes sense to stick to that.

I absolutely agree that is should be consistent, and for THAT reason I dont think (only) drc should be the answer. Because on every quiz congo gives drc as the answer. SO noone evers thinks about drc to start with a D.

wales IS a country, but because it is excluded on quizzes on jetpunk everybody is adamant that it isnt.. They dont seem to grasp the sovereign state part.

same thing for certain type-ins, because of some things that are accepted, people start to think it is correct.

and stop thinking for themself or doing research, but simply copying what they have heard another person claim before..

France has a border with the Netherlands in the Caribbean (Saint-Martin and Sint Maarten). Is one of them an overseas territory? Either way I think there should be a caveat excluding overseas territories.

Neither. One is a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands (as Scotland is to the UK), the other is a departement

There's some inconsistencies with other featured quizzes.

Saudi Arabia should be accepted, at least as a type-in, since it has 8 as of the Countries Bordering Saudi Arabia. If JetPunk policy is that Saudi Arabia doesn't border Bahrain, then that quiz needs an update.

Also, France has 11 borders via Saint Marten. Neither the caveat or description excludes it currently. It also won't change any answers, so it might as well be fixed.
