It certainly is. "Dog" came into use some time before the Norman Conquest, but no-one knows where from or why.

Very impressive! Yes, I speak a little bit of Portuguese, not enough to carry on an intelligent conversation in though. I might manage a brainless conversation with a bit of gesturing and a lot of stopping to say "um... er..."
