I know Canada is ridiculously big, but I still would have never guessed the Yukon is bigger than Nevada, much less California - gotta love the distortion of map projections.

yukon's size is heavily increased on mercator projection maps. It is pretty clearly much bigger than both california and nevada on a world map. The closer an area is to the equator, the smaller it seems on a world map compared to its actual size. Yukon is therefore one of the most heavily distorted subdivisions in the world and appears much larger than it actually is.

Nice quiz! Got the biggest 20, plus 17 other smaller regions, but plenty of room for improvement.

I missed Arkhangelsk because I didn't type the H; I always spell it that way and it is accepted on other quizzes. I'll try to remember the correct spelling moving forward, but in case I forget, would you consider accepting "Arkangelsk", without the H?
