Newfoundland is not a country, so it shouldn't be an answer. Also, most of these give the name of the country at the time (e.g. roman empire) But in 1607 the united states was not a country yet, so technically this one should be the UK. but that's a bit of a minor issue. If you could accept just Rome for the roman empire that would be good too, most quizzes don't require you to type roman empire.
OK. Since newfoundland was not a country then, in fact no country was there, I went to the oldest country there, which happened to be Newfoundland. I will accept Rome now.
Newfoundland is not a country though. and it never was, for a while it was part of the UK, afterwards it became part of Canada. it was never a country itself. If you want to pick the oldest country that controlled that area, it would be the UK, if you want the current one it would be Canada.
Nice idea, but the quiz is confusing. In some instances you want the modern day country, in others you want ancient empires and in still others, you accept incorrect names (e.g. "England", when we have been trained by Jetpunk to always refer to it as the UK). And then
you insist on obscure places. (Yes, Jesus was born in the Roman Empire [?], but we always refer to his place of birth as Bethlehem).
