There is an issue with nomenclature. When the longest tributary of a river gets a different name from the parent (e.g. Missouri) then the total length of that river is the tributary plus the remaining length of the parent. Does that make sense? So, the longest river in the USA is not the Missouri but the Mississipi-Missouri. Also the Ob-Irtysh is longer than the Lena.
This is a bit confusing of a subject for me, to be honest lol. I've seldom seen people count tributaries lengths as part of the original river's length, though, and looking up the longest river in the United States gives you the Missouri river. Perhaps you're correct, but I also am not going to correct it off something I can't easily tell is wrong, apologies.
