I agree with you. However, I only knew it from when we studied Mexican history in junior school, that is, until I joined Jetpunk years later. Now I could name all Mexican states. I think the average American might only know the states on the border.
Tango, while that made up 6% figure is not as ridiculous as some I've seen (anywhere between 1/5 to 2/3), it's still false. The closest news article I can find supporting something like that figure is from an informal poll of 510 young Americans (18-24). Those interviewed could correctly identify the USA on their first guess 94% of the time. Though unscientific and not necessarily meaningful, I believe that figure as they were only interviewing teenagers and young adults. If you include 25-80 year olds then I'm pretty sure the percentage unable to find the US drops to about 1-2%.
Great quiz. I do though have one request, and that is that Kashmir be accepted for Jammu and Kashmir. I know that its correct name is the latter, but many people just refer to the area as Kashmir. I thought that there must be a region there that I hadn't heard of.
I second the motion to accept just "Kashmir," but this was cool! Learned a few new provinces.
