In French, just "u" is pronounced like e.g. ü in German, so to get the OO sound, they use "ou": Ouganda, Ouzbékistan. For some reason Latin American countries are left intact and pronunciation is adjusted accordingly.

Funny...typed Uk...for Ukraine. And got credit for the UK which I had not thought about...tho I hope I would have remembered it. Along with the US. I would never think there are as many countries of any of the letters these quizzes do until I do the quiz! I think there will be 4 because I remember 2 or 3, and then they start coming into my head. It's helped me memorize them for the big quiz, tho there isn't much use otherwise. I could start tweeting them I suppose. ;)

Reminds me of a "Why Americans are stupid" video on youtube. One of the questions was "Name the country that begins with "U"". One guy started: "Utah, Utopia, Yugoslavia..." and one girl was just standing with a dumb expression on her face. The journalist tried to help her and it looked like that: J: What about this country?
