I'm amazed that India not only has less railway than the USA, but less less than a third as much. It sometimes seems you can't take a step in India without tripping over a line, whereas in America you have to go out on safari for a month before you finally spot a train out in the wild. Perhaps the US is just much 'more bigger' than India than I thought.
