Limp Bizkit
Ironically named after infamous P.E. teacher, Leonard Skinner, at elementary school wchich the members attended. The band’s name is botched spelling of the teacher’s name.
Lynyrd Skynyrd
In similiar fashion as the above, named after boss at the store where one of the members worked at. The name starts with M and is a plural of the name.
Melvins
The band had different name each show they performed, each time as ridiculous. Such names as Fred Astaire's Asshole or The Ashtray Babyheads. The final name is the one that stuck when they rose to fame. Contains a body part and name of a water sport.
Butthole Surfers
The name is not just a play on the English synonym for god, it's also a name of a demon in the German mythology.

One of the members was at a party, where two gay guys discussed their love for felching- a sexual activity involving oral play with one’s anus, after anal sex. During said activity, one of them defecated on the other’s face. An undigested kernel of ____, among other things, remained on his tongue. The band adopted the name with “C” replaced with “K”, like the band above, and with reversed Я. The logo was drawn by the singer with his left hand.
Korn
The band considered name The Misfits, wchich was already taken. So they chose a synonym they found in dictionary. “c” in the band’s name is also replaced with a “k”. Unlike band above, the name doesn’t start with “K” though. It’s the only hip hop group in this quiz
Outkast
Named after a specific yet exaggerated kung-fu move, wchich appeared notably in the movie Kill Bill vol.2.
Five Finger Death Punch/5 Finger Death Punch
The band was named after the disease of the same name which Ian saw in a biology textbook, chosen because it sounded "sufficiently evil".
Anthrax
Named after Hungarian countess, who is rumored to have bathed in virgin’s blood to stay young. This is referenced in an eponymous song by a band Venom wchich pioneered the same genre. There are still disputes, as to wchich degree did the band draw inspiration from Venom.
Bathory
The band wanted a nice sounding name, with positive meaning instead of edgy one like many bands at the time. The final name means "bliss" or being in "a transcendent state free from suffering." It’s the central concept in buddhism.
Nirvana
Canadian progressive metalcore band named after a device some believe is capable of communicating with the dead.
